TRAVEL/KAIJU LOG #8

ANGELS FALL INTO THE UNDERWORLD

CONTENT WARNINGS: death, disease, COVID-like illness, drugs, loss of limbs, gore, violence, hallucinations

▶ 001. OUTSIDERS UNBOUND (TRAVEL)

There are no alarm blaring this time, no signals dispatched to the Outsiders’ oculars. With all of the organization down, the Angels of LILITH are left on their own to find the source of this crisis and solve it. And find it they did: an effort led by Aventurine, Jinx, Rin and Murasama was able to locate Ereshkigal somewhere underground in the country of Iraq. Raidou was able to ascertain that this location is KĂ»r - the Underworld spoken of in ancient Sumerian legends - and Tezcatlipoca used his divinity to confirm what many feared: the missing goddess has been corrupted and has become a calamity attempting to end humanity. What of the seven others who have disappeared? Tsurumaru, Ratio, Silco, Godzilla, Yzak, Bakugou and Hiyori? Are they corrupted too or are they prisoners? And what of Yuji who foolishly leaped into a rift in an attempt to rescue his friends? According to Dante’s efforts to connect with them, they are safe but they aren’t exactly in their right mind. But in what way?

Those questions may be answered soon as Outsiders depart for their next mission. Yesod and Shinn were able to further refine the search and identify the location of the Underworld’s entrance: in the archaeological dig of Nimrud, where the ruins of the Temple of Ishtar are found. Gilgamesh, who is seemingly a regular of KĂ»r, may be able to guide the Outsiders once they get there.

The trip to Kish however is nothing like previous travels. Where LILITH is typically an organized and orderly organization, the Outsiders have to devise their own methods of getting there. Kaga and Akagi are flying LILITH’s cruiser to Kish and will take anyone willing to go with them. Others may also use a data portal to go to Egypt and from there travel to Iraq - it is the longest way, but also perhaps the safest?

▶ 002. KUR KIGAL IRKALLA (RUINS OF THE TEMPLE OF ISHTAR, IRAQ)

Upon arriving, the heat is scorching and the sight is one unlike any the Outsiders have seen before. No futuristic buildings nor old-fashioned houses can be found - instead, there are the ruins of a three thousand years old city. Dr. Masuda welcomes the Outsiders, explaining to them the ongoing archaeological efforts that have been undertaken to restore the site thanks to modern technology.

And indeed, a few ancient buildings on the outskirts of the ruined city are fully restored. Due to the unique circumstances, Outsiders are allowed to use them and enjoy all the comfort from ancient times. Though there are beds, they are made with reeds with stone pillows; if you are fortunate, you may find one of the few pillows made with wool and feathers. At the very least, as far as food is concerned the Outsiders will not suffer: the archaeologists offer bread, cheese, and meat stews all cooked in the ways of ancient Mesopotamia. Blank clay tablets and reed pens can also be found, toys for children made of clay and little statues depicting various deities. There are also a lot of broken statues, and Dr. Masuda has an explanation for those.

"Our troubles began last month with an earthquake. Upon assessing the damage, we found all of Ishtar’s iconography throughout the ruins destroyed. What’s weird is that nothing else’s been damaged - it’s like someone or something vandalized all things related to her. Then in the deepest chamber of the temple, we found a tunnel that wasn’t there before. According to our tools it leads to an underground cave. Dr. Jones and his team decided to explore it, but they haven’t returned yet."

He will take the Outsiders to the Temple of Ishtar, which still lays in ruins and hasn’t been restored. Statues depicting the goddess are all shattered, and upon reaching the deepest chamber underground: an opening. Flashing a light inside will reveal a tunnel with no end in sight. As they stand by the opening, Outsiders will find their tracker rings and localization magics reactivating: their companions are deep inside the cave.

▶ 003. GATE OF GRAVE KEEPER (FIRST GATE OF THE UNDERWORLD

After a period of traveling through the dark cavern, the air is cool and smells sharply of earth and iron. They will be greeted by a pale glow. When they come close, they will see the light coming from several cages that line a single path which leads them deeper and deeper - all identical to the one Ereshkigal is usually seen carrying around.

They might notice random pitfalls of various depths and strange rock formations with characters scratched into the surface. Were those the names of long lost Outsiders or maybe figures from home? They disappear when you look away, becoming illegible after. Was it maybe a trick? Further up ahead, figures can be seen and voices can be heard in the distance.

Those who decide to run ahead will find themselves facing someone from their past. They act normally at first but after a while, the Outsider may notice something amiss. Regardless of who they are, they will try to convince the Outsider to "join them." Should the Outsider falter, they may be afflicted by the Rift, triggering feelings of grief and regret and even make them turn on their allies.

For those strong enough to resist the illusions, the figures become frustrated and lash out. They shed their illusions and reveal themselves to be skeletal spirits that slash at the Outsiders with sharp claws. They are relentless but simple enough to defeat with regular attacks.

Defeat the spirits and carry on ahead to find a mausoleum: the sealed gate. Many gallĂ» spirits guard the gate. A dark, hooded figure calls out from atop the mausoleum. They look down on the Outsiders with cold, steely eyes.

"I didn't expect so many to make it this far. I'm surprised."

The figure draws their sword and on cue, the spirits attack. Defeat them to enter the mausoleum and fall deeper into the underworld.

▶ 004. GATE OF REASON (SECOND GATE OF THE UNDERWORLD)

As Outsiders descend further into the Underworld, the ocular network becomes spotty, making it difficult to keep in contact with each other, though it is still possible with concentrated effort.

Upon exiting a narrow passageway, they are greeted with a pathway that branches into two, with what seems like Rifts at each end. Despite their appearance, they do not give off any Rift energy, nor do they cause any Rift poisoning symptoms.

Cackling laughter resounds as a GallĂ» Spirit bursts into existence from blue flames. When it speaks, the voice that comes out of it is eerily familiar:

“You’ve proven you can fight, but what of your mind? Use your brain and make your way towards me, or suffer a foolish death.”

Immediately, the world descends into chaos. It blurs, twists and undulates unpleasantly. Colors mix, yet somehow retain their shape. It is a vivid hallucination, as if one had taken psychedelic drugs. The GallĂ» Spirit cackles again as it disappears, leaving them to their doom.

Entering either portal will lead Outsiders to a wide cavern with even more portals. The cracks in the ground and streams of deep, rushing water are wide enough to fall into. There are slopes, rocky platforms and other natural cave hazards. Portals dot the walls and ceiling, tilted sideways or even upside down. Others traversing the maze can be seen sideways and upside down, even if they feel they're right side up. It's an Escher maze. For the especially keen, they may notice the faint scent of chalk lingering around some portals. Or, instead of the echoes of cave ambiance, the portals emit silence with the occasional flutter of a page, as if they’re in a library.

Once they find the exit, Outsiders are greeted with a gate decorated with Greco-Roman motifs, sandwiched between stone shelves lined with carvings of tablets, books and scrolls. Sitting atop the frame that juts out of the rocky walls is a familiar man in unfamiliar form, playing with a cube containing a blue flame and looking bored out of his mind.

“Not bad. Five points.”

▶ 005. GATE OF EXCISION (THIRD GATE OF THE UNDERWORLD)

From the last gate, Outsiders will have to navigate semi-narrow passageways and fissures, lined with bioluminescent mushrooms. It’s easy to get lost, so make sure to use the buddy system to make your way through! It opens into a chasm, leading to a dock, and a lake. The buildings around the dock are decrepit and old.

In the middle of the lake, there is sharp ironwork interlaced with patches of stained bottle glass, and the top is inset with a small, teal gem. Getting to the gate seems easy. It’s just in the middle of the lake, and a little swim never hurt anybody, right? If Outsiders try to swim, it will subject them to rift poisoning, and staring at it might tempt them to jump in.

There are GallĂ» spirits are dressed up like half-pint thugs, and their glass covered faces are pretty disarming! They wait alongside five monstrous forms in shredded clothing that the particularly observant will notice look like explorer’s garb – it’s Dr. Jones and the missing archaeologists!

"Do you know the difference between a man and a monster? Is it a fact of nature, is it something one is born with? Is a monster truly just nature? Sometimes, but not necessarily. Being a monster is often a choice. Becoming a monster is simple. It takes a simple choice. It means you have chosen to do whatever it takes, to take what you want. To hold power in your hands. We all understand that. Can you become the monsters you must become, to survive?"

With the last word, the archaeologists and the GallĂ» spirits attack. Though difficult, if Outsiders are able to defeat Dr. Jones and his crew of corrupted, shimmered archaeologists and Silco, then a path towards the door will lift from beneath the water to the gate.

▶ 006. GATE OF SURVIVAL (FOURTH GATE OF THE UNDERWORLD || KAIJU FIGHT)

As the Outsiders descend a black staircase, they find a towering gate lit by flickering blue flames and a brick path leading to an endless field of lava. Thunder cracks as rain hisses against the magma. Overhead, clouds churn, lightning dancing through the Underworld’s ceiling.

A roar echoes from the gate and GallĂ» Spirits rise from the stones, clad in cheap monster suits like in a low-budget film. Both these spirits and the erratic lightning strikes are a threat as the kaiju unleashes torrents of malevolent red energy. The violent red energy pulses through its body, shining along its scales and feathers.

█ █ █ MONSTER DEBRIEF SHEET
NAME: 𒃀𒀭𒂠𒍠𒁠𒇠𒇠𒀀
HEIGHT: 13m
WEIGHT: ???
CLASS: Extremely Dangerous
LOCATION: The Underworld
ABILITIES: Produces a high temperature energy and is capable of using it as a method of ranged attack. Armored Scales, sharp teeth and claws, tail is likewise a dangerous weapon. Intelligent. Amphibious, resistant to extreme climates.
WEAKNESSES: EMP effects can interfere with the creature’s energy attacks. Exposure to music or verse causes confusion that will make attacking easier. Angering it will cause the creature to fight more recklessly, leaving openings that can be exploited.
EXTRA NOTES: Exercise caution attacking the creature from behind, do not engage it should it enter water.
RIFT EFFECTS: Corruption, Sumerian Fever

█ █ █ ATTACHED PHOTO:

CW: GORE, LOSS OF LIMBS
The battle is savage, with Lucy and Gilgamesh delivering the strongest blows. Lucy’s attack lands early in the fight, and the confusion caused to the kaiju by Raidou and Taryon’s recitals coupled with Akagi, Donatello, and Dearka’s musical interference allows for a clean cut that removes the beast’s right arm! Thanks to Hunter’s ice magic, the beast is frozen solid in ice long enough for Kadaj to strike in deeply! Bravely, Muramasa allows Cagalli’s Akatsuki to throw him towards the kaiju like an angry sword wielding baseball. Capitalizing on Godzilla’s weakened legs Athrun seizes his tail and sends Godzilla tumbling to the ground. Nanami further unbalances the kaiju, allowing Gilgamesh to capitalize on this with his own attacks, the force of which knocks the kaiju hard enough that the tail rips right off!
END CW

This makes Godzilla very upset and sends him into a rampage! Thankfully, Aventurine’s falling poker chips keep everyone from the worst of the retributions. Aki, Vash, Lucy, Geto, and Shinn manage to land in attacks even as the continued damage leads to Godzilla charging his attack, the red glow from his mouth intensifying. All of those efforts give the perfect opening for Harumasa’s arrow to land a perfect hit! His arrow flies true, finding a gap in the scales of the kaiju's throat and delivering an electric shock into his body, sending the beast falling to the ground with that final decisive blow.

The kaiju manages to rise to his knees for a brief moment, so he can fire a final blast of red energy skyward, igniting the clouds and dispelling the storm. The majority of Rift Energy has been purged from his system. Fully spent, he collapses with the glow fading from his body. The spirits vanish, magma cools, and the path ahead clears.

Beyond this gate is an area of respite. A field of clay flowers and sculpted trees awaits, devoid of all life but providing a chance to rest and recover after their trials.

▶ 007. AFTERWORD.

Welcome to the 6th travel log but 8th kaiju log... We'll just call it the 8th kaiju log. As mentioned in the last mingle, the June event is a player plot in which the Outsiders have come together in order to resolve the present crisis.

In this event, all seven gates of the Underworld will have to be crossed and their guardians defeated! However, your character doesn’t need to play out going through every gate. They can let others deal with the earlier gates to focus on later gates. Though they are not featured in this log, Yzak, Bakugou, Hiyori and Ereshkigal will have their own trial/battle in the second log. It is possible to encounter them in this log if they have a top level and come to check on their fellow guardians protecting the earlier gates.

This event is longer than usual so please refer to the event breakdown below for summaries if necessary. Additional information may be provided in top levels of characters involved in the player plot planning.
EVENT BREAKDOWN/RECAP (CLICK TO EXPAND)
001. OUTSIDERS UNBOUND (TRAVEL) With none of the usual alarms or notifications, Outsiders are on their own in terms of figuring out the current crisis. Through the collective efforts of the Outsiders, they will have discovered a route to Ereshkigal and potentially the missing through Iraq. Outsiders are expected to find their own way to Kûr - the Underworld,whether with some help or through the data portal through Egypt.

002. KUR KIGAL With their arrival to the old city, Outsiders are provided shelter in the form of restored buildings that have been retro-fitted for their comfort. With food and shelter no longer a concern Dr. Masuda takes the Outsiders to the Temple of Ishtar where the trials await them deep in the tunnel and caves systems.

003. GATE OF GRAVE KEEPER In the first gate, Outsiders may find pitfall traps and strange gravestones with familiar names written on them. GallĂ» spirits can manifest as figures from characters' pasts and will try to convince characters to succumb to the effects of the Rift. Overcoming the trial and defeating Tsurumaru will allow Outsiders to pass to the next gate.

004. GATE OF REASON Outsiders must battle nauseating hallucinations and navigate a portal maze with dangerous traps and GallĂ» spirits. They can find portals that smell like chalk or sound like turning pages to reach the exit. Reaching the end and defeating Ratio will lead to the next gate.

005. GATE OF EXCISION Outsiders must work together to move throughout fissures, dangerous water, and trap buildings. They can encounter the missing scientists who are drugged to be berserk, stronger, and have more stamina. Defeating them and Silco will allow Outsiders to move on to the next gate.

006. GATE OF SURVIVAL Outsiders must climb up a staircase and fight Gallu spirits while avoiding energy blasts from Godzilla. The environment is very stormy and hot because of magma. Defeating the kaiju will allow Outsiders to move on the next gate but also provide them with a moment to rest and recover.

➠ VERGILIUS

[personal profile] zauneyete 2025-06-01 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
[ A shot rings out from the top of a building, aiming for the shoulder, though it’s clear that it’s not meant to kill. Harm, yes. Not kill. Not that it could, even if he tried. Vergilius can take it, and more. He’s proven it time and time again. Though he shouldn’t goad him, especially after Tezcatlipoca has taken his hand, the stump quickly bandaged with a field dressing – but Silco’s attention is diverted, always diverted. He’s sought him out, watched for him, and – shot, to see what he would do. Maybe he should lick his wounds, and turn tail, but
 but...

A part of him wants to draw him up, and close. If he has the opportunity to convince him, show him that this would be just like that time they spoke, in the middle of a labyrinth. They could destroy it all, raze it, and wouldn’t that be exactly what the both of them want? They don’t have to stop the Kaiju, they can use them, make this whole world burn. He just has to show him.

Even now, he seeks out his gaze. Standing on the roof of a dilapidated building, he looks down, gun still raised, to meet his eyes with his own – different as they are now, a kaleidoscope of colors, a red sclera still ever-open. He stares down at him; his eyes locked only on him at this moment. He’s never looked away, he certainly doesn’t look away now, he didn’t fear him before, so why would he now, now that he is stronger, better, capable? Would he demand he show him? Prove it? All he has to do is but ask.

His lips curl into a sharp, shark’s smile when their eyes meet. The gun is leveled.

He looks as if he’s about to shoot again, but they both know how fast Vergilius can move. He doesn’t pull the trigger, as if taunting him, inviting him to do what he knows he’ll want to do – dance with him.

[A shot rings out.]

[Vergilius has come for one thing. Sure, yes, he'll play nice, work with the others, end this crisis. But deep inside, burning all the while, eating at his soul, has been a singular goal. Perhaps obsessive. He lost one person, and hadn't been there to save him. He won't make the same mistake again.]

[A shot rings out, and Vergilius moves like a wind. The bullet hits air where a shoulder was. In fights, one never hesitates. He's seen the mismatched look propped over the gun, and he knows, he knows who it belongs to. Why Silco is attacking him? He doesn't know, he doesn't care to ask, all he needs is to get closer.]

[He's almost like a wraith more than a man, the streaks of light of his vivid red eyes left as he's launching himself at the building. Using his gladius as a hold, he's stabbing it into the building before leaping further up with crashes of glass and cracks of stone.]

[He's ready to come to you, Silco. A bodyguard needs to be at the side of his employer, after all.]

[personal profile] zauneyete 2025-06-01 05:12 am (UTC)(link)
[ There he is.

He'd always assumed he would come with the rest of them. He'd been looking forward to it, to catching his attention. He'd thought to draw him out, remind him of a truth that they both knew. That this world, their worlds, all of them should be burned to a crisp, rendered to nothing, burned down to the quick, only ashes left in their wake.

Destruction. It was a part of their very nature, violence. He knew that Vergilius felt it as sure as he did. They knew little else than violence.

They were men. They were monsters. They were both.

His lips curled, when he approached, spread into a sharp little smile.
]

There you are. [ He holstered the gun, as soon as he's close enough to hear. With only one hand, he has to manually swap weapons, but his fingers hesitate to grab another one. Not yet, not yet. He can convince him, can't he? ]

Were you looking for me?

[ Had he wondered after him? ]

[He finally lands on the roof - the floor of it cracks as he does so, but he doesn't stop to look at his handiwork. Instead, his red eyes burn through Silco as if to turn him to dust.]

[....He looks different. He is different. The smile is the same, but he will ignore the sudden pang in his chest at it.]

[He has to focus.]

[His voice comes out as a hoarse growl, gladius held at his side.]

I'm here to bring you back, Silco.

[Not quite an answer, but not quite a disagreement, either.]

[ Even now, he doesn't look away. He met his eyes, tipped his head, his lips still curled in that self-satisfied smile. His eye blinked, leaving just that bright red one, staring at him. It's different, it's the same. That corruption that threads through his veins, it's seeking its match.

It wants to find a match.
]

Back? [ He asks, though his hands clasp behind his back. It's all Silco. Corruption does not have to move far, to thread into him. ]

To fighting for people who can't even watch over themselves? For working for LILITH, who can barely defend themselves? [ It's all so tiring. There were so few things that felt... right about being there, in the haze of all of this. The only thing that did —— ]

Do you even know what we're doing, Vergilius? What our purpose is here? What we're trying to do?

[ He still hasn't drawn his weapon. It should be obvious his tactic by now. ]
immortalpoet: (Default)

[personal profile] immortalpoet 2025-06-01 11:05 am (UTC)(link)
[Good questions. But this is the life of working for a corporation. LILITH may not be Limbus Company, but you still shut up and stopped asking. That's all. Silco should understand by now.]

[He tilts his head, not breaking off his gaze.]

Try me.

[What kind of nonsense did Ereshkigal fill their heads with?]

[ He does, in his right mind. Now, though? It's so easy to forget that, with everything else filling up his mind, making him think of all the other things he thinks about. Over and over again. The things he wants to do, and the things he doesn't want to do.

He steps forward, just a little closer. Not too close yet, but enough that he doesn't have to speak up. This is for the two of them, not everyone else.

Do you remember that night in the labyrinth, Vergilius? We both confessed something. A purpose. One we shared.

...I do.

[Why would he forget? Their hand intertwined, the confessions of violent hearts. He felt he opened a door to him he never did for anyone since Roland. No one else knows.]

And you want to act on this purpose now? Why?

[personal profile] zauneyete 2025-06-01 08:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I knew you would remember.

[ Another step closer. A twitch of pain on his face shows through when he's closer, he keeps his arms behind his back, his one good hand clasped over the missing one. He forces a smile, sharp, and knowing. Of course he would remember.

How could either of them forget? He wonders if he reached out, if he could pull him into it?
]

Because the power is there to do it. [ Emphatic, another step forward. ] Because it can happen, finally. After all of this time waiting, playing their little games, we can finally make it happen.

[ Wouldn't he want that? That purpose? ]

[ The corruption is insidious, the way it seeps into his bones and mind, promising him all of the things that he so desperately wanted to make manifest. It had seen the inside of his secret wishes, understood it.

Knew that the thing that would keep him from doing so had confessed something to him. An insidious little reminder. That he had been replaced. What good is a world without everything he wanted? What good is a world that even his daughter had tossed him aside in?

He's closer now, looks up at him.
]

No, no. Played like a fiddle? Do you think so low of me?

[ He can't. He has to — ]

The power is opportunity, don't you see? Something to use, now, instead of letting it go to waste.

I don't think low of you. I will if you let yourself think you're pulling the strings when you're the puppet here.

[Now his mouth curls up in a sneer, his red eyes flickering.]

What happened with you, Silco? And here I thought your pride would protect you from pitiful carrots dangled in front of your cart.

[ The puppet. Something in his face shifts, a sharp twitch of half of it. He meets his eyes, watches that sneer.

Doesn't he see? Can't he?
]

What happened? [ He shook his head, gestured out with one of his — well, with his lack of a hand. He's soaked through the bandages, a spatter of blood goes with it. He should be out by now from blood loss, but he hasn't yet. His lips peel back, something there. A flicker of that old fury, the one that they both hold so close to themselves. ]

It's not what has happened, it's what will happen. [ He's gone, he's gone, he's gone and — ] I'm running out of time.

]

I'm gone, Vergilius.

[ He swallows, finally breaks the eye contact. He would never leave, he's gone, there is only one answer. He had already known that, but what is worse is — ] Replaced.

[ Like every other time, isn't it? He doesn't know why he's dead, he doesn't know how, but he knows he would never leave Zaun, would never leave Jinx. But she left him, in some way. Emotionally, maybe? Found something else, someone else.

He still didn't understand. What was the point of keeping him around, then? Why? If he was so readily tossed aside, and isn't that every time for him?
] I suppose it was inevitable.

You're still here. Who are you talking about?

[ Who he asks. He's still here, he says.

He shook his head, a twitch of something pained, a gritted jaw.
]

Not here. This is... borrowed time, at best.

[ Something, a flicker of that old hurt, a wound that festered. The same one across his face, but it's swept back up into the anger, that armor that only he'd been able to peel back and slip fingers in underneath. ]

Jinx, she —

[ He should stop talking. He knows he should stop talking. This wasn't working, was it? He'd wanted to bring him to his side, to have him stay with him, but...

Of course, this was a fool's errand.
]

It doesn't matter. We are here, aren't we? As you said.

[Borrowed time? For what? That phrase is used for those living for a few extra says. Cheating death.]

[Is he saying he's...dead?]

[And the mention of Jinx. Jinx replaced him, and he's angry. He wonders, for a brief moment, if Charon found another to take care of her.]

[.....No, he would allow that. Because anyone else would be better for her, in the long run.]

[Vergilius shakes his head, trying to focus. That's a lot to think about, but he needs to take care of the main goal. Getting Silco out of this mess.]

Yes, we are here.

[And quieter:]

I'm here, Silco.
zauneyete: (CORRUPTION | 5)

[personal profile] zauneyete 2025-06-01 10:35 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Isn't that the worst part? Apparently the child she found was better for her. In the long run, Jinx had found someone that quieted everything. Everything that he couldn't despite all of his lessons, all of his attempts, everything he'd done, it had mattered for nothing. Did it matter for Zaun, too? Everything that he'd done. Every carefully laid plan, every single time he'd made the hard, terrible decision.

He didn't want to, but he knew he had to.

Something flickers across his face, his eyes dart back to his. A swallow.

It's like buzzing in his head, something like high-frequency static. It can remind him time, and time, and time again. It's not hard, is it? To remind him of fingers on his neck, of the Pilt, of all of the hurt, and of Jinx, he'd done everything in his power to protect. How much he'd given up, those long years in another world that settled like fire under his skin and made him itch even now. How much of himself had already been shaved off?

How much had he given up, for someone who would look at the remains of him, and turn away?
]

For how long?

[ Before he can even stop the thought, the corruption knows the answer. It's giving him the answer. They all, all of them will always toss him aside. Vander, Jinx, Set...even Tezcatlipoca did, choosing to dismember him, over joining him. What was left? Other than... ]

[What a question. How long? In the City, "long" didn't mean jack shit. Bonds were made to be broken, by betrayal, by others, by things outside understanding. Nothing could last. Fixers were told, time and time again, to never put their emotions in another's hands.]

[In the end, everyone would die alone.]

[Would Silco leave him one day? Pursue his little plans? Grow tired of his obsession? He wonders about that more than he admits.]

[Vergilius's eyes glance downward, thinking, before they meet the other's mismatched eyes, weary.]

How long do you want me for, Silco? That's the question.

[ Would he die alone? He doesn't know. He doesn't know anything about how he'll die. He doesn't know anything about what will happen. Jinx hasn't told him, only hinted at the aftermath. At the Council, being blown up (that's his girl), this child quieted everything that had been such chaos between them.

He'll be left alone, in the end. He knows that. Not of his own volition, not of his own control. It was never his own control.

He looks so tired. Why does he look so tired? He barely slept as is. Why does he look like that? What could leave him so exhausted?

Does he understand? The kind of person he was? Fixers weren't meant to have things for long. Neither were crimelords. These were weaknesses, these kinds of connections. This was a vulnerability. He did not doubt that the people here couldn't take him away from him — Silco had always had a penchant for strength — but he knew the truth, he was a weakness. Vergilius could so easily do exactly he same as everyone else has done.
]

Me? [ He had never even made that choice. It had always been made for him. ]

I didn't ask you to join me, only to plan to toss you aside later.

Oh? You didn't?

[Does he believe that? Of course, Silco isn't in his right mind, anyways. But as much as he feels that this is all just Ereshkigal's brainwashing talking, there's still something fretful he feels at the core of it all. He should be convincing Silco to return. And yet, he wants something. Confirmation? Reassurance? Why?]

[He scoffs.]

And here you are, tossing aside everything before for a goddess. And what if that goddess tells me to toss me aside, hm? Would you?

[And his upper lip draws back, almost a snarl.]

Could you?

[ Would he? Could he, he asked. Those little words they always used, wielded like a bludgeon. ]

For her?

[ His lips peel back into a grimace. He steps closer, ever closer. he has no knife, one hand is missing. He is weakened, but still he pushes on. ]

She cannot command me.

[ He reaches out for him. It's foolish. It's the only thing he can do. ]

Let alone for you? [ A scoff. It says more than he does, despite his tendency to monologue. ] I would never.

[Let alone for him.]

[Silco's hand reaches out. For a moment, Vergilius is weak - he lets it cross over as he leans forward instinctively, lets his fingers brush against his chest.]

[But he stuffs it back, his free hand reaching up to grasp at the man's wrist. Not hard enough to crush, but firm to hold just a few inches away from him.]

...Am I that precious to you, Silco?

[ He leans forward, lets his fingers touch him. It's so brief, before he pulls away, and Silco almost chases him. He doesn't get the chance, his fingers wrap around his wrist. He can't move — but would he?

He leaned forward, oh so subtly. (not...)
]

I told you that you had my full attention.

[ They are both so good at saying words that don't mean what they're trying to say. They use them anyway, every single time. ]

That means — [ He doesn't try to tug away. He simply slides close. Not quite as close as usual, they're on the roof of a building, this is hardly the place. It's hardly the time.

They have a habit of finding those places, though, don't they? His eyes dart away, even if they're so, so close, before he tipped his head back up, to meet them.
]

— that you should be at my side.
