May Catch-All
WHO: Shizuka Takeda and [YOU]
WHAT: Various. Training, feeding stray cats, custom starters
WHERE: Various. Base, Neo-Tokyo, Outside The City.
WHEN: All throughout May, before or after the Vegas excursion.
WARNINGS: Shizuka is the type to get physical and violent when annoyed, but she will try not to, just a fair warning. No age restrictions yet, but will adjust when needed.
Shizuka is not the most social of people. Even after she heard there's some newcomers in the base, she didn't pay them any mind aside from just vaguely seeing some of them in the cafeteria and the rest of the base. Always with a big katana on her these past couple of months, now she is seen around with two swords on her side, just stomping around from point a to b without so much as an acknowledging glance at the other Outsiders. If you're lucky you might have gotten a grunt in response.
But with her being out and about, this is a good chance to actually meet her. Who knows, she could make for a good ally, or an enemy...
[ OOC: None of these work for you? Let me know and I'll write you a custom starter! ]

[BASE] - Cafeteria
I made too much. You- You're free to help yourself...
[ She says, a faint blush on her cheeks as she tries to remain cool, sitting down next to her pot of fried rice. Golden, glistening grains of rice with sautéed shallots, green onions. There's green peas and carrots, along with bits of fried eggs and juicy chicken thigh meat.
Of course, she gets first dibs. She made the whole thing, and if it helps make her fellow Outsiders more comfortable that she's willing to eat her own food so it's probably not terrible? A bite would show that, Shizuka actually can cook. ]
[BASE] - Rec Room / Gym
At the weight room, Shizuka can be seen squatting a barbell with as much weight on it as possible. The bar itself is starting to bend with how heavy each end of them are, yet Shizuka performs the exercise with perfect form - a slow descent all the way down with a two-second pause at the bottom, then a slow ascent with great control. She breathes, then repeats until she reaches her goal, putting the barbell back on the rack with a loud groan out of her. Shizuka is keeping to herself; but maybe you're here working out with her, or you've watched her. Maybe you're waiting for your turn to use the rack, or she may be hogging all the weight plates to build up that monster of a barbell...
At an open mat area, Shizuka can be seen with her two swords - a nodachi and a katana. They float behind her as she stands at one end of the mat with her eyes closed, breathing in and out before she bursts into action. What followed is a string of combinations of her switching between two swords. Attacks, parries, and dodging to create angles against an imaginary opponent. Each sequence ends with both swords floating behind her, and each move is done with machine-like precision and millions of hours of practice. The weight of each sword is evident by the sound of each swing. That deep whoosh suggest a great heft to each weapon. You might even feel a nice breeze from the swings of each blade.
At the pool, usually at night, Shizuka likes to run some laps in the water. Clad in a swimsuit, it makes Shizuka rather antsy of who might be around the pool. She likes being here alone and let her mind drift away with the waves she makes from the strokes of her arms. Even while swimming, Shizuka is strict with her form, going back and forth each end of the pool before having a little contemplative moment at the bottom of the deep end. Taking a break because she got hungry, Shizuka rises from the water with beads of water trickling down her hair. Her head darts towards the noise she hears through her water-filled ears - oh shit, there's someone here! Hello? ]

[She’d waited until Shizuka finished to comment on her sword routine. Makima doesn’t spend a lot of time in here, but occasionally she’ll stop by, just to see if anything catches her interest. And today it has. There’s a hint of curiosity in her expression, there’s more than a hint behind her gaze of course, but it’s what’s showing.]
I haven’t seen you fight before, so I’m glad I had the chance to watch your demonstration.
[They haven’t ended up together during any of the kaiju battles, so the reverse is true as well. Not much Shizuka, or a fair amount of the others, has seen of Makima fighting.]

Now you have.
[ Shizuka walks towards the side of the mat where her duffel bag is kept. Alongside it are two scabbards, and a towel with a cute dog design. Picking up the scabbard for her nodachi, she says something again ]
Are things boring for you that you decided to come here?
no subject
Oh no, if I were bored, I’d have found something else to occupy my time. A movie. Or taking my dog for a walk. While I don’t make much use of the room myself, I do look in here every now and then.
[Just adding more evidence to Lae’zel’s assessment of her as a vouyer but that’s not really her point here.]
Not out of boredom, but I think it important to know what's going on with everyone else.
[But not necessarily for them to know what's going on with her.]

[ No arguments there. It is good to have an idea of what others here are capable of. She herself is doing the same thing, quietly. ]
Carry on, then.

[Though in Makima's opinion it doesn't really matter if Shizuka does or not. They're all in a situation where they'll learn about each other. The most one can do is try and limit what they don't want learned. Which sometimes can be easier said than done.]
And I do mean what I said about being impressive. I've worked with a few people who like using blades, they're fairly common in my line of work, but nothing quite like that. An amazing level of control and precision.
[A rare compliment about someone's battlefield prowess. She doesn't find herself giving those out too freely.]
On an unrelated note, I like the towel too.
[That's a little comedic, there's a little bit of a smile on her face, but she does mean that part too.]

It was on sale. I don't have a job currently.
no subject
Haven't found something you liked?
[She's curious, this whole picking and changing jobs thing is very new to her. She knows people do it, but up until recently she hasn't. So it's new territory for her.]

[ Shizuka rolls her eyes a little, choosing to answer curtly instead. A sarcastic comment would have taken a few more words ]
There isn't a lot of jobs that robots can't just do.
[ So there's really no surplus of places hiring right now. Shizuka knows that humans will always be favored over the robots when a human wants a job in a certain place, but she also feels picky. But more... lost, than anything. A nerve is unwittingly struck by this line of thinking, reminding Shizuka of her depressive struggle to find a purpose. ]

[Though there are some things she prefers the human touch for, it really is remarkable. And no, she won't visibly react to the eye roll or shortness of the answer. No, even the sarcastic comment probably wouldn't have gotten a reaction if it had happened.]
But that aside, what would you like to do?
[Seems like a good starting point if you ask Makima. After all, it's a question that in regards to employment, she's had to give some thought to recently as well.]
no subject
[ All of her life she's been nothing but an instrument of destruction. While she will stay the same, she at least wants to try to do build and create and help. ]
no subject
[Nothing close to a word there, just a small noise of agreement. Being productive is nice. She appreciates that.]
I'm tempted to suggest something in construction. Doesn't seem like there's any shortage of need for that and a human touch is probably still needed. But I don't know if that's something you're interested in. Either way, I do hope you find what you're looking for. It's really fulfilling when your job and your interests line up.

[ She huffs, tossing her towel aside the general area her personal effects are occupying. She's far from done with today's exercise, and with her lack of a social life anyway, what else is she gonna do? ]
Are you speaking from experience? I doubt a concierge job is satisfying.
no subject
[There's an unhappy look on her face for a couple moments here.]
I feel like I stuck with it longer than I should have.
[Because the whole idea of changing jobs just isn't something she's done. She's spent her whole life in Public Safety so the idea of quitting and finding a different employer is an odd concept to her.]
[BASE] - Greenhouse
What is it?
[ She asks curtly. Shizuka didn't expect an audience, but she won't turn away someone for being curious. Or maybe she invited you and she's just being her usual self ]
[NEO-TOKYO] - Shrine
She cracks an eye open at whoever she feels is looking at her, accompanied by her usual scowl that directly contrasts the peace and calm of the tune she was just playing. But at least you know this is Shizuka you're looking at and not some kind soul who possessed the grumpy swordswoman. ]
[NEO-TOKYO] - Market District
Shizuka can be witnessed lifting an entire crate of supplies into a store, which would weigh quite a lot that would pose a challenge even to a strongman. It's quite the walk towards the storefront because somehow the delivery truck couldn't get in the narrow street. ]
Please don't block the way.
[ She asks dryly, but her choice of words were at least polite. She may be lifting the whole thing with no problem but it's stacked pretty high that her sight is completely blocked. ]
--
[ In a different night, Shizuka can be seen enter a bar. By now it looks like Shizuka has gotten used to the scene, ordering a drink so casually and knowing what to ask for. ]
I'll have a honeycomb highball. Light on the ice. Bit more whisky this time.
[ Shizuka sighs as she plops down on the bar stool like the weight of the world is on her shoulders. Immediately her hand clutches at her forehead and her eyes are closed, only opening when she looks at the person behind the counter and the one next to her. She can only give a vague grunt upon seeing them. Was it a friendly "hrrm" or a mean "hrrm"? Well why don't you ask? ]
[OUTSIDE THE CITY] - Hot Springs
[ A noise that someone so grim like Shizuka probably wouldn't make, but is somehow doing so now. She's right outside of the hotspring bathhouses that is frequented by some Outsiders like her, with a sack of cat food clutched in her arm. The bag is opened slightly, just enough for her hand to fit through and the aroma of dried cat feed can be caught by the strays that have gathered around these parts. ]
Pspspsps...
[ She looks like a crazy woman hissing at the air as none of the cats have showed up yet. ]
Where are all of you gone? Come, I brought food...
[ Only then there's a cat that peeks its head out from the corner, and another person to witness this happening apparently. Shizuka's grumpiness returns slightly, but her focus remains on the cats she's grown to love. ]
