TRAVEL/KAIJU LOG #8

ANGELS FALL INTO THE UNDERWORLD

CONTENT WARNINGS: death, disease, COVID-like illness, drugs, loss of limbs, gore, violence, hallucinations

ā–¶ 001. OUTSIDERS UNBOUND (TRAVEL)

There are no alarm blaring this time, no signals dispatched to the Outsiders’ oculars. With all of the organization down, the Angels of LILITH are left on their own to find the source of this crisis and solve it. And find it they did: an effort led by Aventurine, Jinx, Rin and Murasama was able to locate Ereshkigal somewhere underground in the country of Iraq. Raidou was able to ascertain that this location is KĆ»r - the Underworld spoken of in ancient Sumerian legends - and Tezcatlipoca used his divinity to confirm what many feared: the missing goddess has been corrupted and has become a calamity attempting to end humanity. What of the seven others who have disappeared? Tsurumaru, Ratio, Silco, Godzilla, Yzak, Bakugou and Hiyori? Are they corrupted too or are they prisoners? And what of Yuji who foolishly leaped into a rift in an attempt to rescue his friends? According to Dante’s efforts to connect with them, they are safe but they aren’t exactly in their right mind. But in what way?

Those questions may be answered soon as Outsiders depart for their next mission. Yesod and Shinn were able to further refine the search and identify the location of the Underworld’s entrance: in the archaeological dig of Nimrud, where the ruins of the Temple of Ishtar are found. Gilgamesh, who is seemingly a regular of KĆ»r, may be able to guide the Outsiders once they get there.

The trip to Kish however is nothing like previous travels. Where LILITH is typically an organized and orderly organization, the Outsiders have to devise their own methods of getting there. Kaga and Akagi are flying LILITH’s cruiser to Kish and will take anyone willing to go with them. Others may also use a data portal to go to Egypt and from there travel to Iraq - it is the longest way, but also perhaps the safest?

ā–¶ 002. KUR KIGAL IRKALLA (RUINS OF THE TEMPLE OF ISHTAR, IRAQ)

Upon arriving, the heat is scorching and the sight is one unlike any the Outsiders have seen before. No futuristic buildings nor old-fashioned houses can be found - instead, there are the ruins of a three thousand years old city. Dr. Masuda welcomes the Outsiders, explaining to them the ongoing archaeological efforts that have been undertaken to restore the site thanks to modern technology.

And indeed, a few ancient buildings on the outskirts of the ruined city are fully restored. Due to the unique circumstances, Outsiders are allowed to use them and enjoy all the comfort from ancient times. Though there are beds, they are made with reeds with stone pillows; if you are fortunate, you may find one of the few pillows made with wool and feathers. At the very least, as far as food is concerned the Outsiders will not suffer: the archaeologists offer bread, cheese, and meat stews all cooked in the ways of ancient Mesopotamia. Blank clay tablets and reed pens can also be found, toys for children made of clay and little statues depicting various deities. There are also a lot of broken statues, and Dr. Masuda has an explanation for those.

"Our troubles began last month with an earthquake. Upon assessing the damage, we found all of Ishtar’s iconography throughout the ruins destroyed. What’s weird is that nothing else’s been damaged - it’s like someone or something vandalized all things related to her. Then in the deepest chamber of the temple, we found a tunnel that wasn’t there before. According to our tools it leads to an underground cave. Dr. Jones and his team decided to explore it, but they haven’t returned yet."

He will take the Outsiders to the Temple of Ishtar, which still lays in ruins and hasn’t been restored. Statues depicting the goddess are all shattered, and upon reaching the deepest chamber underground: an opening. Flashing a light inside will reveal a tunnel with no end in sight. As they stand by the opening, Outsiders will find their tracker rings and localization magics reactivating: their companions are deep inside the cave.

ā–¶ 003. GATE OF GRAVE KEEPER (FIRST GATE OF THE UNDERWORLD

After a period of traveling through the dark cavern, the air is cool and smells sharply of earth and iron. They will be greeted by a pale glow. When they come close, they will see the light coming from several cages that line a single path which leads them deeper and deeper - all identical to the one Ereshkigal is usually seen carrying around.

They might notice random pitfalls of various depths and strange rock formations with characters scratched into the surface. Were those the names of long lost Outsiders or maybe figures from home? They disappear when you look away, becoming illegible after. Was it maybe a trick? Further up ahead, figures can be seen and voices can be heard in the distance.

Those who decide to run ahead will find themselves facing someone from their past. They act normally at first but after a while, the Outsider may notice something amiss. Regardless of who they are, they will try to convince the Outsider to "join them." Should the Outsider falter, they may be afflicted by the Rift, triggering feelings of grief and regret and even make them turn on their allies.

For those strong enough to resist the illusions, the figures become frustrated and lash out. They shed their illusions and reveal themselves to be skeletal spirits that slash at the Outsiders with sharp claws. They are relentless but simple enough to defeat with regular attacks.

Defeat the spirits and carry on ahead to find a mausoleum: the sealed gate. Many gallĆ» spirits guard the gate. A dark, hooded figure calls out from atop the mausoleum. They look down on the Outsiders with cold, steely eyes.

"I didn't expect so many to make it this far. I'm surprised."

The figure draws their sword and on cue, the spirits attack. Defeat them to enter the mausoleum and fall deeper into the underworld.

ā–¶ 004. GATE OF REASON (SECOND GATE OF THE UNDERWORLD)

As Outsiders descend further into the Underworld, the ocular network becomes spotty, making it difficult to keep in contact with each other, though it is still possible with concentrated effort.

Upon exiting a narrow passageway, they are greeted with a pathway that branches into two, with what seems like Rifts at each end. Despite their appearance, they do not give off any Rift energy, nor do they cause any Rift poisoning symptoms.

Cackling laughter resounds as a GallĆ» Spirit bursts into existence from blue flames. When it speaks, the voice that comes out of it is eerily familiar:

ā€œYou’ve proven you can fight, but what of your mind? Use your brain and make your way towards me, or suffer a foolish death.ā€

Immediately, the world descends into chaos. It blurs, twists and undulates unpleasantly. Colors mix, yet somehow retain their shape. It is a vivid hallucination, as if one had taken psychedelic drugs. The GallĆ» Spirit cackles again as it disappears, leaving them to their doom.

Entering either portal will lead Outsiders to a wide cavern with even more portals. The cracks in the ground and streams of deep, rushing water are wide enough to fall into. There are slopes, rocky platforms and other natural cave hazards. Portals dot the walls and ceiling, tilted sideways or even upside down. Others traversing the maze can be seen sideways and upside down, even if they feel they're right side up. It's an Escher maze. For the especially keen, they may notice the faint scent of chalk lingering around some portals. Or, instead of the echoes of cave ambiance, the portals emit silence with the occasional flutter of a page, as if they’re in a library.

Once they find the exit, Outsiders are greeted with a gate decorated with Greco-Roman motifs, sandwiched between stone shelves lined with carvings of tablets, books and scrolls. Sitting atop the frame that juts out of the rocky walls is a familiar man in unfamiliar form, playing with a cube containing a blue flame and looking bored out of his mind.

ā€œNot bad. Five points.ā€

ā–¶ 005. GATE OF EXCISION (THIRD GATE OF THE UNDERWORLD)

From the last gate, Outsiders will have to navigate semi-narrow passageways and fissures, lined with bioluminescent mushrooms. It’s easy to get lost, so make sure to use the buddy system to make your way through! It opens into a chasm, leading to a dock, and a lake. The buildings around the dock are decrepit and old.

In the middle of the lake, there is sharp ironwork interlaced with patches of stained bottle glass, and the top is inset with a small, teal gem. Getting to the gate seems easy. It’s just in the middle of the lake, and a little swim never hurt anybody, right? If Outsiders try to swim, it will subject them to rift poisoning, and staring at it might tempt them to jump in.

There are GallĆ» spirits are dressed up like half-pint thugs, and their glass covered faces are pretty disarming! They wait alongside five monstrous forms in shredded clothing that the particularly observant will notice look like explorer’s garb – it’s Dr. Jones and the missing archaeologists!

"Do you know the difference between a man and a monster? Is it a fact of nature, is it something one is born with? Is a monster truly just nature? Sometimes, but not necessarily. Being a monster is often a choice. Becoming a monster is simple. It takes a simple choice. It means you have chosen to do whatever it takes, to take what you want. To hold power in your hands. We all understand that. Can you become the monsters you must become, to survive?"

With the last word, the archaeologists and the GallĆ» spirits attack. Though difficult, if Outsiders are able to defeat Dr. Jones and his crew of corrupted, shimmered archaeologists and Silco, then a path towards the door will lift from beneath the water to the gate.

ā–¶ 006. GATE OF SURVIVAL (FOURTH GATE OF THE UNDERWORLD || KAIJU FIGHT)

As the Outsiders descend a black staircase, they find a towering gate lit by flickering blue flames and a brick path leading to an endless field of lava. Thunder cracks as rain hisses against the magma. Overhead, clouds churn, lightning dancing through the Underworld’s ceiling.

A roar echoes from the gate and GallĆ» Spirits rise from the stones, clad in cheap monster suits like in a low-budget film. Both these spirits and the erratic lightning strikes are a threat as the kaiju unleashes torrents of malevolent red energy. The violent red energy pulses through its body, shining along its scales and feathers.

ā–ˆ ā–ˆ ā–ˆ MONSTER DEBRIEF SHEET
NAME: š’ƒ€š’€š’‚ š’ š’ š’‡ š’‡ š’€€
HEIGHT: 13m
WEIGHT: ???
CLASS: Extremely Dangerous
LOCATION: The Underworld
ABILITIES: Produces a high temperature energy and is capable of using it as a method of ranged attack. Armored Scales, sharp teeth and claws, tail is likewise a dangerous weapon. Intelligent. Amphibious, resistant to extreme climates.
WEAKNESSES: EMP effects can interfere with the creature’s energy attacks. Exposure to music or verse causes confusion that will make attacking easier. Angering it will cause the creature to fight more recklessly, leaving openings that can be exploited.
EXTRA NOTES: Exercise caution attacking the creature from behind, do not engage it should it enter water.
RIFT EFFECTS: Corruption, Sumerian Fever

ā–ˆ ā–ˆ ā–ˆ ATTACHED PHOTO:

CW: GORE, LOSS OF LIMBS
The battle is savage, with Lucy and Gilgamesh delivering the strongest blows. Lucy’s attack lands early in the fight, and the confusion caused to the kaiju by Raidou and Taryon’s recitals coupled with Akagi, Donatello, and Dearka’s musical interference allows for a clean cut that removes the beast’s right arm! Thanks to Hunter’s ice magic, the beast is frozen solid in ice long enough for Kadaj to strike in deeply! Bravely, Muramasa allows Cagalli’s Akatsuki to throw him towards the kaiju like an angry sword wielding baseball. Capitalizing on Godzilla’s weakened legs Athrun seizes his tail and sends Godzilla tumbling to the ground. Nanami further unbalances the kaiju, allowing Gilgamesh to capitalize on this with his own attacks, the force of which knocks the kaiju hard enough that the tail rips right off!
END CW

This makes Godzilla very upset and sends him into a rampage! Thankfully, Aventurine’s falling poker chips keep everyone from the worst of the retributions. Aki, Vash, Lucy, Geto, and Shinn manage to land in attacks even as the continued damage leads to Godzilla charging his attack, the red glow from his mouth intensifying. All of those efforts give the perfect opening for Harumasa’s arrow to land a perfect hit! His arrow flies true, finding a gap in the scales of the kaiju's throat and delivering an electric shock into his body, sending the beast falling to the ground with that final decisive blow.

The kaiju manages to rise to his knees for a brief moment, so he can fire a final blast of red energy skyward, igniting the clouds and dispelling the storm. The majority of Rift Energy has been purged from his system. Fully spent, he collapses with the glow fading from his body. The spirits vanish, magma cools, and the path ahead clears.

Beyond this gate is an area of respite. A field of clay flowers and sculpted trees awaits, devoid of all life but providing a chance to rest and recover after their trials.

ā–¶ 007. AFTERWORD.

Welcome to the 6th travel log but 8th kaiju log... We'll just call it the 8th kaiju log. As mentioned in the last mingle, the June event is a player plot in which the Outsiders have come together in order to resolve the present crisis.

In this event, all seven gates of the Underworld will have to be crossed and their guardians defeated! However, your character doesn’t need to play out going through every gate. They can let others deal with the earlier gates to focus on later gates. Though they are not featured in this log, Yzak, Bakugou, Hiyori and Ereshkigal will have their own trial/battle in the second log. It is possible to encounter them in this log if they have a top level and come to check on their fellow guardians protecting the earlier gates.

This event is longer than usual so please refer to the event breakdown below for summaries if necessary. Additional information may be provided in top levels of characters involved in the player plot planning.
EVENT BREAKDOWN/RECAP (CLICK TO EXPAND)
001. OUTSIDERS UNBOUND (TRAVEL) With none of the usual alarms or notifications, Outsiders are on their own in terms of figuring out the current crisis. Through the collective efforts of the Outsiders, they will have discovered a route to Ereshkigal and potentially the missing through Iraq. Outsiders are expected to find their own way to Kƻr - the Underworld,whether with some help or through the data portal through Egypt.

002. KUR KIGAL With their arrival to the old city, Outsiders are provided shelter in the form of restored buildings that have been retro-fitted for their comfort. With food and shelter no longer a concern Dr. Masuda takes the Outsiders to the Temple of Ishtar where the trials await them deep in the tunnel and caves systems.

003. GATE OF GRAVE KEEPER In the first gate, Outsiders may find pitfall traps and strange gravestones with familiar names written on them. GallĆ» spirits can manifest as figures from characters' pasts and will try to convince characters to succumb to the effects of the Rift. Overcoming the trial and defeating Tsurumaru will allow Outsiders to pass to the next gate.

004. GATE OF REASON Outsiders must battle nauseating hallucinations and navigate a portal maze with dangerous traps and GallĆ» spirits. They can find portals that smell like chalk or sound like turning pages to reach the exit. Reaching the end and defeating Ratio will lead to the next gate.

005. GATE OF EXCISION Outsiders must work together to move throughout fissures, dangerous water, and trap buildings. They can encounter the missing scientists who are drugged to be berserk, stronger, and have more stamina. Defeating them and Silco will allow Outsiders to move on to the next gate.

006. GATE OF SURVIVAL Outsiders must climb up a staircase and fight Gallu spirits while avoiding energy blasts from Godzilla. The environment is very stormy and hot because of magma. Defeating the kaiju will allow Outsiders to move on the next gate but also provide them with a moment to rest and recover.

[ A half-second, as he stares at him. That long, odd stare, mismatched, but at least his eyes are the right colors now. His hair is still pale, but the corruption is taking longer to fade there — unfortunately, the white in Silco's hair will be more prominent — and he hissed out a soft laugh, before he took a drag on his cigarette. He tipped his head back, and blew a waft of it into the air. }

It was so easy, to remember. How much I wanted it. How much it meant.

[ How everyone was going to leave him. How easy it had been, after Jinx had done it too. ]

Yet I seem to have slipped death's notice yet again. [ A shake of his head, and he reached out to take the flask. Sweet, sweet alcohol.

Should he be drinking it? God, no. He's still going to. A long swig of it. It burns so pleasantly.
]

Next time I find a nice one, I'll give it to you instead, how about that?

[ Tezcatlipoca’s hard gaze at least relaxes once Silco takes the flask. That’s the understanding that the two of them have. It’s the sort of god he is, even if he hadn’t been the one to take up the true title of a god of wisdom. Yet, even so, he’s still Tehimatini—ā€the one who understands the peopleā€. ]

Yeah. I know. That’s how that process works. It takes a possibility in your heart and makes it something real. That’s who you would have been if things had continued along back in Kenos. If you’d become who Yima wanted.

[ He sighs, since technically, it’s not like he knows that with any certainty. It’s not like he had his true prescience even there to be able to unfold the possibilities of the future. He’d still caught a glimpse, though. It wasn’t specifically Silco’s future, just the world itself, and in that, were those chosen few even themselves anymore?

That was a possibility he couldn’t share there. It’s a possibility that he didn’t share here, because it didn’t matter. So, yeah, of course it would end up coming up anyways. He takes a drag of his cigarette for a pause. ]

—I meant what I said, though. You didn’t escape death’s notice. Don’t like to put it this way, since you mortals get all weird and touchy about it for some reason. [ He’s joking—He knows exactly why. ] ā€œDeathā€ is always with you. I’m here to stay, whether you like it or not.

[ Whether he means that literally or more figuratively is hard to tell, but that’s Tezcatlipoca for you. It’s not meant to be straightforward. It’s a serious sentiment either way, so it’s also short-lived as he smiles again, just a little toothy and cocky. He motions for him to give the flask back. ]

So, sure. Offer me up as many hearts as you like. I’ll take ā€˜em, you know me.

[ In some ways, he knows that he's Tezcatlipoca's. A god of death and conflict would always be one that Silco favors, and well... Maybe he's the type that Tezca favors because of it, too. A man who lives and breathes conflict and strife, was it really so surprising?

He handed over the flask, already missing the burn, but beggars can't be choosers, and instead he opts to take another long drag of his cigarette.

He can tell, in retrospect, how bad it was, the state of him, while he'd been a world away. It had been so gradual he barely recognized it, until he felt that ever-oppressive weight of who he had become in those two years, how mad he'd been. How much he had become an instrument to someone else. He still didn't mind that dream, destroying it all. It would always be with him now, but maybe it's a distant thing.
]

Hah. I suppose if I'm death's acolyte, it explains a lot about how I keep slipping the noose, doesn't it?

[ Silco took everything personally, but maybe when it came to Tezca, he was a bit more forgiving. (Until he finds out what you did...) probably bias — he tended to be blind to those he favored — but also...

Well.

He looks thoughtful. Pensive.

For a long moment, he looks away. Silco generally doesn't, but for anyone. He meets people's eyes out of spite just as much as anything else. Though thinking about it...
]

Something I've known for a long time, is that everyone leaves eventually. Perhaps death is one of the few constants I have in life. I suppose it's inevitable that I was going to meet you.

[ not that he thinks you're cool or anything!!]
fursuit: (ā‘  icampa.)

[personal profile] fursuit 2025-06-03 08:40 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Tezcatlipoca takes the flask back, and maybe surprisingly, he puts the cap back on and tucks it away. It’s just practical, though. Good as it would be to drink and talk about death and the past like two old men, he’s saving that for their whole journey. And, besides. He does technically know that drinking isn’t the best idea for either of them at the moment with the blood-loss. He can almost hear Kaladin’s exasperated voice in his ear for even having a drink at all. ]

Nah, wouldn’t go that far. You’re just lucky to have avoided it so far, believe it or not.

[ He’s inclined to believe ā€œnotā€, but he doesn’t elaborate further. He just sees how Silco actually turns thoughtful, and he waits to see whether he’ll let it pass or express it. When he does… Hm. ]

You’ve known that for a long time, huh?

[ He repeats that, but there’s no doubt in his tone. It’s also not dripping in the sort of saccharine empathy that Silco had rejected from Quetzalcoatl. As it is always is with Tezcatlipoca, it’s a cool, quiet thing. The question is surely an unexpected one, but it’s not pushy. It’s clear that Silco could refuse to answer it if he wanted to. ]

Tell me about the first one, then. Who was the first one you loved that got away?
zauneyete: (pic#17504542)

[personal profile] zauneyete 2025-06-04 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
You put the flask away before you asked that?

[ His tone might be joking, but there's an edge to it, like he's obfuscating, putting a comical costume on something ugly, and old, and aching even now. It didn't matter how long it was since it, it didn't matter how long he lasted separately from it. He still felt it, like that old wound that never healed — and well. It was that.

He inhaled a drag from his cigarette and awkwardly pulled another out from the pack, before he lit it with the cherry of his current one. One could not say that he wasn't a chainsmoker, but perhaps he needs it.
]

He didn't. [ Blunt, his words curled with smoke, a sharp exhale. ] I killed him.

[ Tezcatlipoca is always like this. Honest, sharp, mean, and a touch cruel, but Silco understands that about him. He's like a Zaunite, really. He digs into this wound, like he's trying to expunge it, remove everything in it, so it can heal properly. His lips twitched before he flicked the first cigarette away, moving to the next one. ]

He's the one who gave me this, after all. [ He lifts his stump, before it drops back down. Ah, yes. He points with the cigar at his eye. ] Betrayed me. Tried to drown me in the river, where the toxins did their thorough work.

[ It's so much more than that, even Silco's voice belies that this is a long story, but he offers the in, at least. A blurry photograph of his past. ]
fursuit: (ā‘  icelia.)

[personal profile] fursuit 2025-06-04 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
[ Tezcatlipoca gives a helpless shrug at the half-request for the flask, but it’s with a wry smile. ]

Hey, I’m not partakin’ either, at least. Not the best idea for either of us to overdo it with the blood loss.

[ It’s cheeky, but it’s still a concession to how Silco had gotten him too. But otherwise, his expression relaxes again as it’s clear that Silco is going to tell him. He’s glad, honestly. He wouldn’t have pushed for it, but he knows that whatever it was, it was important. In fact, he has a feeling that it’s crucial for the man Silco is today.

So, he simply listens.

It’s not a long story, but it also doesn’t need to be. There’s plenty of grand detail that could be told to really make it a story, and it’s not like he would have complained about that either. However, he thinks it’s telling that Silco, the man of big words and bitter bravado, makes it a simple story. There’s meaning in every careful, controlled syllable. It doesn’t even matter if the reality of the situation was more complicated than this. It was Silco’s perception, and that was his truth.

…Besides. He knows Silco well enough at this point to fill in some of those blanks.

Giving Silco the Shimmer into his eye. The way that he struggled with a confusing fear when he’d pulled him out of the sea. The way he treated people. As it turns out, he doesn’t need any more detail than this, not really. He’s been silently watching them come together for as long as they’ve known each other. ]

Everyone leaves. Everyone changes. Everyone dies.

[ It’s a repetition and distillation of Silco’s mindset down to a harsh observation. It could sound critical from others, because it’s such a simplistic way to view the world, but from Tezcatlipoca, it’s simply… accepting. There’s neither approval nor disapproval, but just an acknowledgement that he sees where all this bitterness in his heart comes from. ]

It’s a lonely way to go through life.
zauneyete: (pic#17763840)

[personal profile] zauneyete 2025-06-04 05:06 am (UTC)(link)
Hm.

[ He grunts in acknowledgement.

It's not wrong. Even he knows it is. How could he not, knowing that life was the way it was? Transactional was best, as it prevented people from taking advantage, from winding in, from finding those little spaces and pieces he tried to keep buried and dead. It is lonely, and nobody wanted to be lonely.

Even Silco. Even Silco who desperately found connection in people like Tezcatlipoca and Set... the broken, the unlikable.

He'd found it in a little girl, crying in the rain. And still... it never felt like it was right, enough. Trying to protect all those old wounds, trying to find connection...

It is simplistic. It's also the only way he knows how to survive. If he hadn't... he doesn't know if he could have done what needed to be done. He couldn't have funded shimmer, or brought it to the undercity, worked ever closer toward independence, or sunk his knife into Vander's back. He wouldn't have been able to crush a god's gem, or fight so hard a world away. If he wasn't willing to be lonely, he couldn't have done any of it.
]

It's the only way to survive. [ He admitted. ] I always knew... [ An inhale, and he tipped his head back, to breathe out the smoke. Cigarettes were no cigars, they felt like barely anything on his lungs. Still, it's something. ]

That I was nothing. That I was from nothing. That they would all look down on a dirty trencher, no matter what height I reached. Filth like that is disposable.

[ Silco had never reached closure on this. It sounds dramatic, but in the end, what other conclusion was there? Vander had tried to kill him for the crime of getting their friends killed, for wanting to make Topside hurt for the crime — and then had turned around and made a deal with the very people who had pulled the trigger. The very people who shot them like animals and kept them from even being able to speak up. ]

I'd rather be lonely, than dead at the bottom of the river.

[ That's where they all ended up in the end. ]

or: today tezca learns that generational trauma does NOT require blood relation

[personal profile] fursuit 2025-06-04 06:26 pm (UTC)(link)
[ There are echoes here of the conversation that he’d had with Jinx. He can see how this reverberates down to her and what she’d expressed to him, but just like his promise about Silco’s fate, it’s a private thing. There are gods that would surely speak up about it and try and mend things (Quetzalcoatl comes to mind, of course), but Tezcatlipoca knows better. Their hurts are personal and given with trust. Forcing someone to reveal them only makes the wound go deeper. It has to be done on their own terms.

(Thus, he does imagine that there’s a big conversation in their future by giving those wounds space to breathe.)

He feels confident that Silco has—Well, forgiven him is probably too much, but he’s accepted it, at least. Understands enough why he was brutal and drastic. So, with a little nod, he closes the gap between them so that he can sit next to Silco instead of across from him. It’s not overly close, but it’s friendlier. ]

Sure. You’ll do anything to survive. You’ve got a drive to live that’s stronger than most people I’ve ever met.

[ ā€œIt’s why I like youā€ goes unsaid, but it’s implied. He reaches into the bag again and pulls out one of the protein bars, which he breaks in half in the packaging before unwrapping it. ]

…But you’re not happy. [ It’s blunt, sure, but it’s also so obvious about Silco that he doesn’t think anyone would miss it. ] You’re talkin’ about disposable here in terms of life and death, but that’s not all it is, is it? You don’t want to be alone. But that’s easier than facing the idea of someone leaving you. Makin' you live with their absence. That's a different kind of loneliness. Hurts more.

[ He holds out half the bar for Silco. ]

About right?

Cw: eye trauma as always

[personal profile] zauneyete 2025-06-04 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Do I seem the type to be happy?

[ No, no. He knows who he is. Cantankerous and mean, and that's by design, isn't it? Happy, or a semblance of it, was a far off memory, tarnished and corrupted by everything that came afterward. How could happiness exist, when the memories of it came part and parcel with choking the life out of him, with drowning, and betrayal? It was always going to be non-existent. What right did a pack of sump rats have to happiness? It would always be taken away.

He reached out, and took the half. Holds it in his hand, perched along with the cigarette. He doesn't eat it at first. It's easy to think he's being his usual paranoid self, but really, he's staring outward, instead. He sighs, heavy and so, so tired.
]

It's not just the living without. It's everything that came with it.

[ He remembered how much it hurt. The layers of his eyes deteriorating, the pain of his skin peeling back, the ache that kept him up for days and weeks, the screaming, how much it hurt. Every second agony, and then there was... What he'd lost. He's never even had the chance to mourn. Their friends, himself, he'd been so focused on survival that he's not even sure it ever stopped.

It just became a part of himself. An artifice of revenge and hatred, purpose and a promise that he doesn't think he'll ever get to fulfill — despite everything. No matter how much he gave, no matter how much he did.

None of it was ever good enough.
]

Afterward, he did everything he could to protect them. His kids, the Lanes. The deal he made with the people who treated us like we were less than them. The friends left. [ He knew what they said after. What the story was. That Silco had started it. That Silco had been the one to blame for their problems. Even the one he'd done it for. Blame themselves, because the enforcers were always going to commit the violence, right? ]

But me? I wasn't worth that. I was only good dead. I had no other options, if I wanted to survive. I wouldn't have lived, if I wasn't fighting for what we deserved — and I couldn't fight, if this was going to happen again.

[ it would. ]

[ Again, Tezcatlipoca listens, but admittedly, he knows right away what he wants to ask. There are new details here about Silco’s past—how and why he is the way he is, and they’re important to him, certainly. Tezcatlipoca sees them differently, even if he wouldn’t share that view. It’s why even though Silco had posed the question sarcastically… It’s what Tezcatlipoca ends up focusing on the most. ]

Dunno. Maybe you could be happy.

[ …Because he sees these details as obstacles. They’re old pain, and they’re scars that Silco bears. But they’re tethering him to that past. He can’t let go of them or accept them. He’s just stuck there, floating in limbo, and he has been for a long time, he figures. ]

Like, say you never go back to Zaun. Say you live out the rest of your days here. Whole new world, whole new start. What’s happiness look like for you then?

[ He'd been about to eat the bar, when he asks. Silco's hand stilled. Tezcatlipoca had asked something similar before. What would he do, when the fight was over. When they had what he always wanted, Zaun's independence. When he had everything he wanted, what would he do then? When the fight was over? When the purpose had been fulfilled. He'd thought that he would keep going. Building the nation he'd always dreamed of building. As he'd always envisioned it.

He sighed, and he looked over the area, where everyone was resting. Healing.
]

Certainly not doing this.

[ Could anyone blame him? ]

I suppose...

[ He thinks of Jinx, some of the things she'd said when he'd been under. Corrupted. ]

Seeing Jinx thrive. [ He admits. It didn't matter how, really. She could do whatever she wanted, and she would always be perfect. But he also knew... there had been something to her, the pain in her voice. She was tired too. Tired of fighting and... everything she was. Even he knew that.

He doesn't know what that means, though, for starters. He doesn't know if he ever could.
]

Without my life's work, though... Happy sounds a lot like bored. I suppose I'd need a distraction or two. I don't even know how to relax these days.

[ Tezcatlipoca laughs at his sneering comment, because, yeah, fair enough. There are plenty of people here who live for this shit, but Silco? Nah. Like he said, his fighting isn’t usually a physical thing so much as it is a psychological one. Luckily, Tezcatlipoca treats it equally regardless.

But as he takes his own bite of the bar, he gives Silco a pat on the shoulder. It’s the sort that’s warm and friendly, full of camaraderie and a conversation that apparently, they won’t be having. There’s only so much he’ll guide, after all. It’s still up to people to make the steps themselves. ]

Yeah, that’s about what I thought. It’s worth thinkin’ about, is what I’m sayin’.

[ Said with his mouth full, but also with a twist of his nose at it. This definitely isn’t his preferred diet, but at least these don’t make him sick… He just swallows it, then takes a swig of water to wash down the dry ā€œmealā€. ]

—Anyways, what you said before. Implied that Ereshkigal picked you ā€˜cuz you might have an advantage over me? That really what she said?

[personal profile] zauneyete 2025-06-08 07:45 pm (UTC)(link)
[ It's worth thinking about, he says. Unfortunately, for Silco, it's so... outside of anything he's considered. Tezcatlipoca asked him once what his plans were for after it was all said and done, and it's the same thing. He doesn't know. Once, he'd had life planned out. Maybe Piltover would have listened, maybe he could have been some sort of go-between, an advisor on Zaunite issues — hell, maybe even a councilor if they let them — but that had been so thoroughly drowned, left to die in the river the night he died that first time.

He doesn't know, because he only knows the fight.

Thinking of being stuck here without it... He doesn't know. What would he do? Still take over the criminal underworld? Sure, he can do that. It's something to do, but... what else...? He has a stray thought, but it's immediately turned away from, a roll of his eyes.

Tezcatlipoca moves the conversation, and Silco takes the opportunity, as always, to shit talk Ereshkigal.
]

That's what she told me, yes. What my job was supposed to be for her.

Personally, I think she was being foolish, but I suppose if I killed Quetzalcoatl, of course she would think of me as the option to take you out as well.

[ A laugh. ] Too bad we know each other well enough, I suppose. I didn't have nearly the drive to murder you.

[ Haha. Look at him brighten up, just like that. Tezcatlipoca grins in that sly, slightly mean way of his, and it’s easy to assume that it’s because of the topic of Ereshkigal, but this time? It’s definitely at Silco. Secretly. ]

Well, I can see where she’s comin’ from. There’s a grain of truth in there, but her execution was a little off… Now, if you were actually a meathead that was way too into lucha? That would be something different. You might have actually kicked my ass, yeah. It’s being like Quetzalcoatl.

[ He takes another bite and washes it down with water, but it comes with a laugh. ]

Sooooo. I gotta ask, that said. What’s Ereshkigal like now that she’s—well, evil probably ain’t the right word for it. But I know for sure she’s different.

I would never want to be like Quetzalcoatl.

[ So maybe that's why he was able to kill her? Who knew. These weird logic rules don't make sense to him as it is.

He bites at his bar, and chews. Not because he has to think about how she's different, but because, well. Dramatic effect.
]

Considering that one of the few times we spoke she threatened to shock me with lightning, thought I was involved with a demon, and then threatened to put me in a cage if I didn't behave.

[ yeah she did ask if silco was involved with Sebastian ]

So I haven't noticed a difference, other than her physical changes. She was as prickly as ever, though a touch quicker to threaten. Give the girl a little power, and she goes mad with it.

[ Even if Silco is his acolyte and his buddy... He's inclined to be on Ereshkigal's side here. Like, Silco isn't a pleasant guy, so, sure. Shock him with lightning, lock him in a cage, whatever. That all seems almost reasonable, or at least not as crazy as Silco is implying.

However, it's that last part that gets Tezcatlipoca's attention. He looks at Silco incredulously, and there's no pause at all before his judgement. ]

...I know you're not the most self-aware guy, but damn. You're the last person that gets to be judgemental about goin' mad with power, Silco.
zauneyete: (pic#17565158)

[personal profile] zauneyete 2025-06-12 04:46 am (UTC)(link)
[ Look, to him, the only difference is the power.

To be fair, he also hasn't taken much of an opportunity to know her, either. Predictably.
]

Well of course everyone would expect it from me.

[ He sniffs, affronted. ] I thought gods were above that sort of thing.
fursuit: (ā‘  tlahuetzquitiliztli.)

here it comes

[personal profile] fursuit 2025-06-12 02:41 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Tezcatlipoca laughs, because what other reaction is there? It’s definitely endeared, and it’s enough that Silco is subject to a horrible habit of his that he’s so far avoided. Tezcatlipoca reaches up to Silco and—!!

Ruffles his hair. ]

Hahaha, damn right we do.

[ It’s a brief ruffle. At least. He removes his hand, but it’s with a big grin because he knows it’ll totally throw Silco off. ]

But. Nah. Not really. That’s kinda the whole reason my side of things had the four Suns leading up to the fifth. If a god ever tells you they’re infallible, they’re lyin’. We’ve got lessons to learn, same as anyone. [ But, cheekily, he adds: ] ā€˜Cept me, of course. But that’s why I’m Tloque Nahuaque—ā€the lord of the near and nighā€—and not anyone else.

SCREAM

[personal profile] zauneyete 2025-06-14 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
[ He barely realizes what he's doing until it happens. He reaches out, and all of his hair is suddenly askew. Silco's normally perfectly in control locks go every which way. With it all down, Tezca is granted a very unique insight: that Silco's hair is longer than his styling suggests, and that down, it looks...

Well.

Endearing isn't the right word, but close enough.

His lips thinned.
]

Oh yes, of course. You're the infallible one. The only exception.

[ His good hand reaches up to smooth through his hair and put it back into place. ]

I suppose I shouldn't be surprised. [ He sniffs. ] Your lot has proven time and time again that godhood truly is nothing more than posessing more power than they know what to do with.
fursuit: (ā‘  telochcui.)

[personal profile] fursuit 2025-06-14 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Tezcatlipoca wasn't expecting this insight at all, actually. As he draws his hand back, he gives Silco a Lookā„¢ļø, breathes out a little "huh", then settles back. Silco fusses with setting it back and continues on his usual kind of screed, but Tezcatlipoca is now thoroughly distracted by this revelation. ]

...You know, you actually look kinda good with your hair down.

[ He sounds surprised, because he is! ]
zauneyete: (Frazzled)

[personal profile] zauneyete 2025-06-14 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
[ he stops mid-fuss. ]

What.

[ Hand halfway through his hair, he leveled his blackened eye on him. ]

I used to keep it long, you know.

[ Tezca getting the young!silco lore. ] I don't see that it's any better down than it is up.
fursuit: (ā‘  tlapoloa.)

[cuts off ur hand] anyways: would,

[personal profile] fursuit 2025-06-15 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
[ Of course Silco was young at some point. But still. It's weirdly hard to imagine, even for a god, because Silco was just Silco. Even when he was a younger man, Tezcatlipoca can only imagine him having this same, crotchety personality.

...He knows that's probably not the case, considering what they've talked about. But still. ]

Just looks good to me, is all. Maybe it's 'cuz it's different?

[ Tezcatlipoca scrutinizes Silco further, but this isn't in that intimidating, godly way he sometimes does. This is much more normal, and it's clear from his expression that he's trying to imagine Silco when he was younger—long hair, unscarred... ]

...Yeah. I can see it now. You were pretty hot back in the day, weren't ya?
zauneyete: (pic#17789725)

😳

[personal profile] zauneyete 2025-06-15 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
[ Okay, so maybe he would have been slightly less crotchety, but we all know he was still a real piece of work. The Silco of today didn't come from a vacuum, after all.

Even still.

His head tipped, his nose crunches up slightly.
]

Not that it matters now... [ He says with all of his usual prickliness and annoyance. ] But I turned a few heads in the day.

[ the butch lesbian look ]

[ Truly, let it be known that Tezcatlipoca has a talent in distracting people from their troubles… You lost a hand and had all kinds of other weird shit going on? Don’t worry about it! Now we’re talking about, uh, this. God of chaos and conflict indeed. ]

Ha, yeah, can see it. Or at least with what I’m imagining, you would’ve turned mine.

[ Another pat on the back, just as playful and shitty as ever. It’s a perfect contrast to Silco’s sour mood. ]

But, hey, not that you’re bad now either. Like, you’ve got your fuckbuddy, right? So clearly you turned theirs.
zauneyete: (pic#17756792)

[personal profile] zauneyete 2025-06-15 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
[ A deadpan look because Tezcatlipoca knows that Silco is a prude not charmed by his ways. So he just blinks at him once, twice, his other eye staring at him for a long moment.

That is. Of course.

Until he says that.

His lips twitch. He is opting to very carefully keep his eyes on Tezcatlipoca.
]

I told you it was one time.

[ That is what he told him. Let's not look behind the old man yaoi curtain. ]

Don't make that out to be anything more.
