▶ TEAM BUILDING EVENT #2
TEAM BUILDING EVENT #2
▶ 001. FLOWER VIEWING.
The Neo Tokyo Meteorological Agency is very excited to report that cherry blossom season has begun, and the cherry blossom (and plum blossom) trees are blooming right on schedule once again. It’s a rare time where the concrete jungle of Neo Tokyo blossoms in beautiful shades of pink and white, and due to past conservation efforts to protect the natural cherry blossom trees, there are natural trees in season all over the city. It’s a sight to behold, and the people are very excited about it, setting up picnic mats and enjoying the beauty of nature with their friends and family. Even with all the distractions of technology, even with the looming knowledge that the next Kaiju could advance at any second, Hanami continues to be a popular custom, still being practiced centuries after the world was first at siege.
Outsiders are free to do as they like during this period. Some of the city still needs to be rebuilt from the recent floods, but stall owners have organized themselves splendidly to capitalize on the season. Traditional foods and snacks to enjoy with your loved ones at Hanami include dango, cherry blossom cookies, sakura mochi, onigiri, and hanami bento sets including sushi rolls, kamaboko and tamagoyaki. Prepare your own, or grab one at the many stalls offering them on their menu. Lots of places are selling sake at half off.
For Outsiders who want to do more than sit at the picnic, they can break up fights between the locals over the best picnic spots (they are very intense about this), or help track when the trees are blooming throughout the city and report directly to the Neo Tokyo Meteorological Agency. They’re happy to pay. If Outsiders choose to report where trees are blooming, they will accept a small form on their ocular devices and encouraged to walk in a pair or group for accuracy when gathering information. The form will include date, location, the kinds of trees blooming and how well they are blooming. (Players are free to head canon any information about this.)
Those who stay too long amongst the flowers might find themselves coming down with an … interesting form of hay fever. Symptoms can include flu-like symptoms, or uncontrollable giggling and elation. Looks like the flood waters from before are affecting the trees in some way.

▶ 002. WHITE DAY.
Here in Neo Tokyo, LILITH wants all its Outsiders to be happy and bonded as a team. A team that cannot work together will crumble in the next Kaiju attack. While it’s a great sentiment, the organization is a little too fond of … coercive methods. Just as chocolate was provided last month for Valentine’s Day, Outsiders will be airdropped several boxes of chocolates on March 14th, also known as White Day. A brief is beamed to their implant:
█ █ █ MISSION OBJECTIVE:
✖ Return the chocolate previously handed out to you on Valentines’ Day.
✖ For new Outsiders and Outsiders with leftover boxes, hand them all out to other Outsiders by the end of the day.
✖ Failure to comply will be grounds for disciplinary action.
Just as before, a failure to comply with these requirements will result in Outsiders being saddled with cleaning duty of the cafeteria and communal showers for a week, or a house arrest of 24 hours in their rooms.
As a note, we are leaving it up to players to decide how many boxes they are saddled with and how much they need to do to avoid punishment.

▶ 003. BUDDY UP.
With new Outsiders arriving at the base, LILITH wants them to feel as welcome as possible. Older Outsiders will be tasked to take a newbie under their wing and buddy up with them for a number of days (to a few weeks). The newbie, meanwhile, will be ordered to shadow a more experienced Outsider throughout that whole time to learn as much as possible about life as a LILITH recruit. LILITH expects the oldbies to act as a true senpai, but will ultimately leave it up to them to decide how best to nurture the new arrivals. A Shutterstock image will appear in the implants along with suggestions. Some suggestions provided by the LILITH Outsider Management Committee include:
✖ Giving them a tour of the base and city.
✖ Training sessions in fighting, use of weaponry and use of technology.
✖ Welcome parties and dinners to make them feel included.
✖ Shadowing the older arrival throughout their daily routine.
✖ Heart to heart sharing sessions about their worries and anxieties.
✖ Physical and mental health check ins.
✖ Buddying up with them during upcoming missions, simulation training and even the Kaiju fight.
These team ups will be assigned by LILITH randomly, and one newbie can be buddied up with multiple older recruits (the system might glitch on occasion and pair older Outsiders together too). How long the pair ups last is up to player discretion. Non-compliance on the part of older or newer Outsiders will be punished with increased cleaning duties. LILITH hopes to foster a culture of mutual growth and support within its employees!
As for recruits who have not been getting along, old and new, LILITH has been hearing everything spoken between Outsiders. Some need exercises to get along. Outsiders will be asked one morning to meet in the Simulation Arena and line up in an orderly fashion. Captain Yamakawa will be going down the line, shuffling characters who need to get along together. She will place a small, metal device on their wrists.
With a push of a button, two characters will be linked together by the wrist by a pair of invisible handcuffs. They are asked to spend between 24 - 48 hours together and go about their day, encouraged to talk about their vulnerabilities or things they have in common. This is to encourage them to get along.
✖ Spend a day or two with someone you hate and find a common ground. Good luck!

▶ 004. AID & REBUILD.
LILITH is dedicated to protecting and flourishing the city of Neo Tokyo. That’s why it’s pulled in Outsiders with such a wide array of skill sets. Every Kaiju attack devastates the citizens in some way - whether it’s through physical hurt and pain, emotional grief and stress, or losing a home or livelihood. It doesn’t help that there was panic around animal hybrids being let loose in the city shortly after. That’s why Outsiders will receive a similar objective each time: Rebuild the city of Neo Tokyo. This general objective is broken down into many small missions that Outsiders will receive throughout the month.
█ █ █ ASSORTED MISSIONS:
✖ REBUILD THE CITY. Following the repeated flooding, many apartments and businesses have been destroyed. Outsiders are tasked with helping to rebuild homes and support the local businesses to recover. This can include aiding the construction work (particularly along the beach and near to the coast) and helping out at local shops. Many shops selling specialty Hanami treats are looking for help making their goods. Never made sakura mochi before? Today, you will learn. Outsiders are free to assume that their workplaces were affected and call out for help.
✖ AID THE PEOPLE. Outsiders with skill sets in healthcare or healing (or whoever wishes to help) will be tasked to support the clinics and hospitals manage their patient load. This can include cooking for hospital kitchens, changing linen and caring for the sick and wounded.
✖ CLEAN UP. Exactly as it says on the tin. Clean up any marine waste that’s been washed onto the shore or rubble that’s fallen in the wrong place. Hazmat suits in outrageous colours are provided on request.
✖ CAPTURE REMAINING HYBRIDS. Though most of LILITH’s specimens have been contained, Dr. Spim (who’s been saddled with inventory work) reports that there are some still missing - and this includes their most valuable specimen of all. Outsiders are tasked to go hunting for these hybrids and bringing them back to the base. They may need to scour the streets or look through social media to find them. They may also need to steal a beloved pet, if said pet looks more like a winged rabbit than a regular rabbit. (Outsiders who have smuggled hybrids for themselves should take care not to be found ❤)

▶ 005. LEVEL 000.
Later during the month, some Outsiders will be tasked with a very specific mission. Remember those auctioneers who were captured at The Sapphire Room? They’re currently in the custody of LILITH, and with most of LILITH’s staff focused on organizing and containing the hybrid specimens that have been captured as well, they are far too bogged down to conduct their usual interrogation processes. This is where the Outsiders come in. Some Outsiders will receive a special mission to interrogate the captives and retrieve information by any means necessary. It works out splendidly too, because it shows the organization just what their imported workforce is … morally capable of. Outsiders will be paired up and brought to LEVEL 000, a basement level within the main base that is restricted access only. Did we always have a basement level? Best not to think about it.
A guiding drone will lead them to the cell room and instruct them to keep their eyes forward. There’s no need to look at the other cells around you. There is no one of interest there. Within the cell is one of the captives from the raid, who’s bound to a chair by metal shackles.
█ █ █ MISSION OBJECTIVE:
✖ Extort information from the captive by any means necessary. LILITH requires information about the whereabouts of Dr. Tanaka Junichiro, the organization behind the kidnapping, how they managed to trip up LILITH’s systems, and information about the whereabouts of the remaining hybrids (including their most valuable specimen).
✖ Outsiders are permitted to use any method they see fit, including physical and psychological torture. Weapons of torture such as blades, pliers, tasers, whips and torches are available for use. Outsiders may not take any weapon with them when they leave the cell.
Following the interrogation, they will be escorted out of LEVEL 000 by the guiding drone, and they will not be able to access it again without special clearance. Successful extortion of information will be rewarded with 50,000 KRYPTO debited to their accounts.
NOTE: This mission will be shared with only certain Outsiders, so it is essentially opt-in. Players who want to receive interrogation clues about the Starlight X mini-plot can comment below and receive an RNG clue. We will leave it up to players to NPC their own captives. Most of them are small-time gang members looking to make an extra buck or mercenaries hired to guard the auction. For extra moral panic, there are one or two regular people down on their luck who ran into the wrong crowd. Please note that due to the limited number of captives and the information they may know, players may receive duplicate clues.
UPDATE 3/16: Players will have until the end of March to submit for interrogation clues.

But what really matters is that Ishmael seems to approve. Not that he really needs her approval (or anyone else's, for that matter) but it's always more enjoyable when both parties are at ease instead of just one. He lifts one eyebrow, as if offended by her suggestion. ]
I'm the one who invited you out here. It would be awfully rude of me to make you do any work, as my guest.
[ This is literally just a picnic between friends but whatever. It's okay though, because he has another plan for her. He fishes out a small box from inside the basket and casually tosses it to Ishmael. Catch! Once the box is safely secure in her hands, he'll get to work laying everything out. ]
Apparently there's some tradition called White Day around here. [ Entirely new to him, but when in
RomeNeo-Tokyo.... ] If you're given chocolate for Valentine's Day, then you're supposed to return the favor next month.[ The box is her return gift..... It's not more chocolate though but rather a small floral accessory. He waits until she's opened the box before adding on a quick explanation. ]
In case you ever wanted to do something different with your hair. [ Since she has so much of it. ]
no subject
[ chivalry is sweet and all, but ishmael has never really cared about that at the end of the day. also, she's not just a guest! she's a friend. he views her as a friend, right. friends that just so happened to get together on a picnic for white day. yeah, totally.
but before she can argue any further, a box is tossed at her which she neatly catches in her hand. her eyes widen upon opening the gift, her mind immediately going back to that conversation with a fellow outsider at the flowershop one night and how she'd rather preger fake flowers instead of real ones because at least the former would last forever --
she's silent at first, trying to keep herself together while wondering why tf she's this affected in the first place. wordlessly she takes off her headband and hides it away in her pocket and attempts to fix the accessory onto the side of her head. emphasis on attempt, because she's rarely this clumsy with her hands yet right now her fingers are trembling a bit... ]
no subject
He's almost done unloading the sandwiches when he looks up, vaguely unnerved by the silence. She doesn't seem to hate it, if the fact that she's trying to pin it in her hair is any indication, but… ]
Need a hand?
[ It is still a little chilly outside. Maybe he should have grabbed one of those handwarmers they sell at the conbini….? Either way he's heading over, a small frown on his face. ]
no subject
It's fine. They're beautiful. I was just... speechless, I guess.
[ very beautiful. she came from the nicer part of her district, but fancy things like this are still beyond her. her headband is the only headpiece she'll ever need, and it's reflected in the countless mirror worlds where she's rarely seen without it.
and also, bashfully: ] Now you're making me feel bad about giving you a box of chocolates that you could've gotten from anybody that day.
[ she could've gone for a more personalized box... maybe an marine-themed one...... u_u ]
no subject
Surely you've gotten gifts before.
[ Even if she'd been busy and preoccupied with first schooling and then work, she must have had a few friends to exchange gifts with, or paramours interested in making some sort of move on her. (Ishmael's an attractive women, a person would have to be blind not to notice.) ]
If you're that worried about it though, I'll let you pick out a return-return gift. It'll be our own personal [ throws dart ] Blue Day.
[ That sounds stupid as hell but whatever. Anyway! ]
Tea, coffee, or beer?
no subject
[ it was just schooling and work, day in and day out, and surviving at sea when its inhabitants try to kill you on a regular basis. no time to get attached, and every time she's close to it, they're gone the next day. there was simply no time.
until now. blue day? she can't help but snort at that. ] Same day next month? I'll think about it.
[ she actually spotted something while exploring the shopping district btw. he won't know what'll hit him hehe :) ]
You actually brought beer? [ bro..... ] I'll behave just this once and have coffee for a change.
no subject
Also look, he had to pull out all the stops for this picnic to make sure it was up to par. Can't have him hyping up the joys of an outdoor picnic under the sun only to have it fall short of expectations....
But he passes over the thermos full of coffee and (predictably) grabs the thermos of tea for himself. ]
Withholding your wilder side from me? I suppose we are in public. [ No point making another spectacle. ] There's sugar and cream in the basket.
[ He doesn't know how she takes her coffee (yet).
no subject
From what I can recall, you were the one who put me on your lap that night. I had no fault in that.
[ that's how it went... right? the details were fuzzy, but there's no way she can forget the way his strong hands had held her waist just to keep her safe. it was just the security she needed, when most people wouldn't usually extend that sort of courtesy back in the taverns of district U.
but uhh. she's not going to think too hard on that. she usually takes her coffee black, so she'll just pour herself a cup straightaway. ]
Cheers?
no subject
Right. I did do that. [ Is he grimacing a little over it? Maybe. ] My apologies again if I overstepped.
[ She did say it was fine, but they really did a lot of things that night?? All in the name of Going Undercover to be fair, but they also probably could have held hands and called each other increasingly more sappy pet names and gotten away with things. Especially after how clear Ishmael had made it the last time they'd talked about how much she wanted to simply be herself.
No more lap sits in the future without explicit permission. ]
But if you think that's wild for me, then you've still got a ways to go.
[ Insofar as unlocking his freak side goes, at least. But they can save that for another day. ]
no subject
he's so troubled about it, wow. maybe there are guys who still have some decorum left, after all. once again, ishmael is just not used to gentlemen, especially in her line of work - and people who are this amicable and charismatic back in the City are usually lunatics ready to prey on the weak. but she's known wriothesley for a while now, and she's confident that he'd never do that to her.
maybe her drunken self was starving for someone's touch, too. ]
Maybe this is why you don't drink out a lot. [ damn. forever a tea freak. ] But sure. Next time we'll go to a bar as ourselves. I'll... try not to overdo it with the alcohol, too.
[ because she did feel a tad guilty about the entire thing. as the song goes, it was only a kiss (it was only a kiss). she takes a sip of the coffee, and hums. ]
What else did you bring? [ just going to take a peek at his pic-a-nic basket... ]
no subject
But he's fine with being known as a tea freak. Maybe it's better this way actually?? If she thinks he just prefers tea above all else then she won't have to question the reasons behind why he chooses not to drink so much.
Speaking of tea, give him a second to grab the world's tiniest container out of the picnic basket. (It's sugar cubes inside, because of course it is.) ]
Didn't you say you wanted to be more yourself whenever possible? Don't hold back on my account. Worst comes to worst, I can always escort you back home.
[ Also he still wants to see her wild side?? Damn, don't hide it from him. :/ Besides, she was so cute when she was drunk before? He wouldn't mind seeing that side of her again. ]
Sandwiches, mostly. I tried to pick foods that were easy to eat. [ No tubs of potato salad for them or beef stew for them. ] I wasn't sure what you liked though so I packed an assortment.
[ The way he told Malkuth to ask Ishmael what she liked and then proceeded not to follow his own advice…. ]
no subject
[ what if she wants to see him white-boy wasted, huh?? he's always been so composed, so either he's some kind of crazy drunk just waiting to come out or a boring one that passes out right away... or something......
either way, she's going to chew on that. literally, by taking one of the fruit sandwiches out of the basket and bite into it. mm, maybe she should've had tea to pair with these after all. ]
What I like? I'm not too picky. After eating nothing but canned rations on the ship for years on end, anything else is practically a five-star meal to me. [ sometimes she can still taste the iron. ] I like seafood, but that's no surprise at this point. But I also like beef noodles? And soup dumplings, those are also good to have.
[ or at least, her other self in another alternate universe is obsessed with them. it still counts. ]
no subject
[ 😳? Just kidding, he still won't get white boy wasted. But maybe he will allow himself to get just a little bit tipsy. But they can discuss that later. Right now, he has to take note of all the things Ishmael likes to eat. For no particular reason, of course.
Though he's curious: ]
Soup dumplings?
[ How does one put soup in a dumpling… Can't wait for him to learn about fried ice cream too. ]
no subject
[ or maybe he cherishes his privacy than the average person. ishmael is slowly starting to piece together the bits and pieces of information he's shared to her so far about himself and she is beginning to see the picture, but there are still some gaps missing...
maybe that's the real reason why he doesn't want to get drunk at all? hmm. ]
You've never had them? They're steamed dumplings filled with pork and soup. [ just thinking about it makes her nostalgic, and it shows in the way her face softens a little. in that au world, she'd usually eat on her own. ] Let's have them next time, broaden your tastebuds a little.
[ maybe teach him how to use chopsticks or something... ]
no subject
The soup dumplings do sound good though, even if he's still puzzling over how they get all the soup in there without spilling any of it. Truly, cooks are geniuses... ]
Seems my tastebuds have a long way to go before they can catch up to yours.
[ But he doesn't sound upset about it. In fact, he sounds kind of excited about the prospect? ]
What else have you had that you enjoyed? [ it's time to take notes.... ]
no subject
Hmm. I tried the whale sashimi last month with Rodya? It's also delicious. It has the sort of gaminess that you might expect from beef? But richer.
[ nts watch the new dunmeshi ep after this ]
Back in my District, there are also delicacies made from Whales and mermaids. We were planning to get mermaid ice cream too before LILITH summoned us here. I don't think they exist here, though. [ because that's technically cannibalism, but that's a story for another time - ] Why are you asking? Are you planning to cook for us or something?
no subject
Mermaid ice cream? [ What the hell. ] That's certainly a….unique dish.
[ If it ever makes its way to Neo-Tokyo, he will not be trying it, and not even because of the cannibalism allegations. If only Laios were here… But it's a good thing he's not because they would never put an end to this conversation otherwise.
He finishes grabbing his sandwich out of the basket and starts unwrapping it. ]
Sorry to disappoint, but I'm not that skilled in the kitchen. I can make a few dishes, but you'll probably have a better time eating out.
[ Though if she really wants him to cook for her, he'll do his best. Hope she likes BBQ ribs. ]
no subject
[ he's going to hate it straight-up lmao
she finishes her fruit sandwich, a bit of cream stuck to the corner of her lip as she reaches for her coffee again. ]
I don't mind either way. I wouldn't be surprised if all you consume is tea and nothing else, honestly. Obviously you're going to have to prove me wrong on that front.
[ whether by eating out or just cook her something, it doesn't matter. it'd give her insight on what he likes too, tight-lipped as he is. ]
no subject
People may have considered me an all-seeing, all-hearing god back in the Fortress, but even I need to eat.
[ Case in point: he is going to take a gigantic bite of his sandwich right now. Mmmm, delicious. Except now there's more to chew and swallow. Give him a few seconds so that he isn't spraying crumbs everywhere. ]
Satisfied? Though if you really want me to cook for you, I'm sure I could scrounge something up.
[ Damn, they have so many plans now. Cooking, drinking, getting soup dumplings. It's really a shame kissing isn't on that list. Another thing on that list: him reaching out real quick to wipe that stray bit of cream off her face with his thumb. At least he has the good manners to wipe it off on a napkin instead of lick it off like a freak.
Though if she does look at him like a freak, he'll at least explain. ]
It seemed easier than trying to play a guessing game guiding you to where it was.
no subject
it only lasted for half a minute before she blinks at him, her eyes slightly narrowing. ]
Er, thanks.
[ she's really out here talking with cream on her mouth. how embarrassing. she's going to leap at a chance of a topic change to recover herself from it. ]
Sounds like you're a pretty big deal back home. Probably because you're supposed to instill fear on your prisoners to keep them in line? Or at least, that how I see it.
[ fear can be used to keep people under control, after all. ]

Although her own words definitely don't come off as anything remotely close to a compliment, his expression souring as he takes another bite of his sandwich. Hopefully that's just her general assumptions of how prisons work in general and not a reflection on him. ]
Maybe in other prisons, but every accomplishment the Fortress has managed to achieve has been a result of the hard work and efforts of the people inside. They may be criminals but they're also all still people, with their own hopes and desires. Give them a place where they can be heard, acknowledgment and proper recompense for the work they do, and before you know it, they'll be managing everything perfectly fine on their own.
[ This is probably the most serious he's sounded in a long time. He stares down at his sandwich, brows furrowed. ]
I'd rather not use fear as a means to maintain order and control.
[ He's had enough of that, thanks. ]

You're really the kind of guy who sees the best in everybody, huh.
[ it's such a naive way of thinking. not to discredit the visible scars on his body and the vaguely lonesome upbringing he had, but that kind of niceness would never have flown in the City. it's a wonder how he wasn't cannibalized by the things he'd seen and heard from the most unsavory folk around.
before she knew it, she's staring into her cup of coffee again. ]
But... what about the people who go out of their way to hurt everyone? Do they deserve the kind of kindness from you? Not every person is going to prison to rehabilitate and repent for the things they've done.
[ because sometimes, fear just works. not just with the way her captain rallied the crew against the Whale eons ago, but how vergilius throws his weight around. it's all she's ever known. ]

He probably should feel flattered that she holds him in such high esteem but he can't bring himself to smile at the compliment, not when (in his opinion) it's off the mark. If he truly believed the best in everyone, he wouldn't be doubting every new person that wandered into his life now would he?
But that's not what they're talking about right now.
The half-eaten sandwich slowly lowers, until its resting in his lap in a sad forgotten state, while his gaze lifts up to stare at Ishmael. What a nice day and here they are, discussing the bleaker side of humanity. The sun may be out but the cool tone of his voice resembles more closely the chill still lingering in the air. ]
I give people a chance. [ It's half-correction, half-explanation. ] What they do with that chance...is up to them. If they choose to continue disrupting and terrorizing their peers, then...
[ He lifts up his sandwich in a single careless gesture. ]
They'll pay for their crimes, one way or another. I may believe in fairness, but I don't believe in unearned benevolence.

she does fall silent there, hanging onto his every word. okay, so he's not as soft as she initially thought. that's good. it only makes sense that he's good to her because she hasn't done anything wrong to him. not that she's planning to break any rules while they're here but...
hm. it's more like she can never get rid of this underlying guilt she's been carrying with her. just because she's gotten her peace back at the lake does not mean that she's completely healed from it. though more importantly, she has a much better image of him now. being a good person does not mean that they're inherently soft either. it really took her this long to realize that. ]
...I see. [ she says carefully, tearing her gaze away from her reflection in her cup of coffee to look at him. ] I understand why people respect you a great deal now.
[ it's actually a huge relief, hearing that from him. he really can be trusted. ]
And... sorry if I steered this conversation to that direction. At least I got to see another side of you, though.
[ she sips her coffee to help hide her small smile. ]

Though right now he's more surprised than anything, one eyebrow lifting at her comment. He really didn't expect her to say that, especially not when all she's seen of him here is his personable side. ]
Is that what you think?
[ Is it fear or respect that keeps everyone in the Fortress on their toes whenever he's around? A little bit of both, most likely, though it's hard to tell when most people look ready to faint whenever he glances their way. But it's enough to witness good behavior day after day, and to hear the snippets of conversation across the halls from those that have found a comfortable rhythm toe their lives at the bottom of the ocean.
Not that any of that's relevant here anymore. ]
I'm flattered, but I think you're giving me too much credit. I really haven't done anything here to deserve such high praise.
[ Multiple sides or not, he really is just another guy here, bumbling around and getting his ass kicked by giant monsters. ]
