TRAVEL/KAIJU LOG #8

ANGELS FALL INTO THE UNDERWORLD

CONTENT WARNINGS: death, disease, COVID-like illness, drugs, loss of limbs, gore, violence, hallucinations

ā–¶ 001. OUTSIDERS UNBOUND (TRAVEL)

There are no alarm blaring this time, no signals dispatched to the Outsiders’ oculars. With all of the organization down, the Angels of LILITH are left on their own to find the source of this crisis and solve it. And find it they did: an effort led by Aventurine, Jinx, Rin and Murasama was able to locate Ereshkigal somewhere underground in the country of Iraq. Raidou was able to ascertain that this location is KĆ»r - the Underworld spoken of in ancient Sumerian legends - and Tezcatlipoca used his divinity to confirm what many feared: the missing goddess has been corrupted and has become a calamity attempting to end humanity. What of the seven others who have disappeared? Tsurumaru, Ratio, Silco, Godzilla, Yzak, Bakugou and Hiyori? Are they corrupted too or are they prisoners? And what of Yuji who foolishly leaped into a rift in an attempt to rescue his friends? According to Dante’s efforts to connect with them, they are safe but they aren’t exactly in their right mind. But in what way?

Those questions may be answered soon as Outsiders depart for their next mission. Yesod and Shinn were able to further refine the search and identify the location of the Underworld’s entrance: in the archaeological dig of Nimrud, where the ruins of the Temple of Ishtar are found. Gilgamesh, who is seemingly a regular of KĆ»r, may be able to guide the Outsiders once they get there.

The trip to Kish however is nothing like previous travels. Where LILITH is typically an organized and orderly organization, the Outsiders have to devise their own methods of getting there. Kaga and Akagi are flying LILITH’s cruiser to Kish and will take anyone willing to go with them. Others may also use a data portal to go to Egypt and from there travel to Iraq - it is the longest way, but also perhaps the safest?

ā–¶ 002. KUR KIGAL IRKALLA (RUINS OF THE TEMPLE OF ISHTAR, IRAQ)

Upon arriving, the heat is scorching and the sight is one unlike any the Outsiders have seen before. No futuristic buildings nor old-fashioned houses can be found - instead, there are the ruins of a three thousand years old city. Dr. Masuda welcomes the Outsiders, explaining to them the ongoing archaeological efforts that have been undertaken to restore the site thanks to modern technology.

And indeed, a few ancient buildings on the outskirts of the ruined city are fully restored. Due to the unique circumstances, Outsiders are allowed to use them and enjoy all the comfort from ancient times. Though there are beds, they are made with reeds with stone pillows; if you are fortunate, you may find one of the few pillows made with wool and feathers. At the very least, as far as food is concerned the Outsiders will not suffer: the archaeologists offer bread, cheese, and meat stews all cooked in the ways of ancient Mesopotamia. Blank clay tablets and reed pens can also be found, toys for children made of clay and little statues depicting various deities. There are also a lot of broken statues, and Dr. Masuda has an explanation for those.

"Our troubles began last month with an earthquake. Upon assessing the damage, we found all of Ishtar’s iconography throughout the ruins destroyed. What’s weird is that nothing else’s been damaged - it’s like someone or something vandalized all things related to her. Then in the deepest chamber of the temple, we found a tunnel that wasn’t there before. According to our tools it leads to an underground cave. Dr. Jones and his team decided to explore it, but they haven’t returned yet."

He will take the Outsiders to the Temple of Ishtar, which still lays in ruins and hasn’t been restored. Statues depicting the goddess are all shattered, and upon reaching the deepest chamber underground: an opening. Flashing a light inside will reveal a tunnel with no end in sight. As they stand by the opening, Outsiders will find their tracker rings and localization magics reactivating: their companions are deep inside the cave.

ā–¶ 003. GATE OF GRAVE KEEPER (FIRST GATE OF THE UNDERWORLD

After a period of traveling through the dark cavern, the air is cool and smells sharply of earth and iron. They will be greeted by a pale glow. When they come close, they will see the light coming from several cages that line a single path which leads them deeper and deeper - all identical to the one Ereshkigal is usually seen carrying around.

They might notice random pitfalls of various depths and strange rock formations with characters scratched into the surface. Were those the names of long lost Outsiders or maybe figures from home? They disappear when you look away, becoming illegible after. Was it maybe a trick? Further up ahead, figures can be seen and voices can be heard in the distance.

Those who decide to run ahead will find themselves facing someone from their past. They act normally at first but after a while, the Outsider may notice something amiss. Regardless of who they are, they will try to convince the Outsider to "join them." Should the Outsider falter, they may be afflicted by the Rift, triggering feelings of grief and regret and even make them turn on their allies.

For those strong enough to resist the illusions, the figures become frustrated and lash out. They shed their illusions and reveal themselves to be skeletal spirits that slash at the Outsiders with sharp claws. They are relentless but simple enough to defeat with regular attacks.

Defeat the spirits and carry on ahead to find a mausoleum: the sealed gate. Many gallĆ» spirits guard the gate. A dark, hooded figure calls out from atop the mausoleum. They look down on the Outsiders with cold, steely eyes.

"I didn't expect so many to make it this far. I'm surprised."

The figure draws their sword and on cue, the spirits attack. Defeat them to enter the mausoleum and fall deeper into the underworld.

ā–¶ 004. GATE OF REASON (SECOND GATE OF THE UNDERWORLD)

As Outsiders descend further into the Underworld, the ocular network becomes spotty, making it difficult to keep in contact with each other, though it is still possible with concentrated effort.

Upon exiting a narrow passageway, they are greeted with a pathway that branches into two, with what seems like Rifts at each end. Despite their appearance, they do not give off any Rift energy, nor do they cause any Rift poisoning symptoms.

Cackling laughter resounds as a GallĆ» Spirit bursts into existence from blue flames. When it speaks, the voice that comes out of it is eerily familiar:

ā€œYou’ve proven you can fight, but what of your mind? Use your brain and make your way towards me, or suffer a foolish death.ā€

Immediately, the world descends into chaos. It blurs, twists and undulates unpleasantly. Colors mix, yet somehow retain their shape. It is a vivid hallucination, as if one had taken psychedelic drugs. The GallĆ» Spirit cackles again as it disappears, leaving them to their doom.

Entering either portal will lead Outsiders to a wide cavern with even more portals. The cracks in the ground and streams of deep, rushing water are wide enough to fall into. There are slopes, rocky platforms and other natural cave hazards. Portals dot the walls and ceiling, tilted sideways or even upside down. Others traversing the maze can be seen sideways and upside down, even if they feel they're right side up. It's an Escher maze. For the especially keen, they may notice the faint scent of chalk lingering around some portals. Or, instead of the echoes of cave ambiance, the portals emit silence with the occasional flutter of a page, as if they’re in a library.

Once they find the exit, Outsiders are greeted with a gate decorated with Greco-Roman motifs, sandwiched between stone shelves lined with carvings of tablets, books and scrolls. Sitting atop the frame that juts out of the rocky walls is a familiar man in unfamiliar form, playing with a cube containing a blue flame and looking bored out of his mind.

ā€œNot bad. Five points.ā€

ā–¶ 005. GATE OF EXCISION (THIRD GATE OF THE UNDERWORLD)

From the last gate, Outsiders will have to navigate semi-narrow passageways and fissures, lined with bioluminescent mushrooms. It’s easy to get lost, so make sure to use the buddy system to make your way through! It opens into a chasm, leading to a dock, and a lake. The buildings around the dock are decrepit and old.

In the middle of the lake, there is sharp ironwork interlaced with patches of stained bottle glass, and the top is inset with a small, teal gem. Getting to the gate seems easy. It’s just in the middle of the lake, and a little swim never hurt anybody, right? If Outsiders try to swim, it will subject them to rift poisoning, and staring at it might tempt them to jump in.

There are GallĆ» spirits are dressed up like half-pint thugs, and their glass covered faces are pretty disarming! They wait alongside five monstrous forms in shredded clothing that the particularly observant will notice look like explorer’s garb – it’s Dr. Jones and the missing archaeologists!

"Do you know the difference between a man and a monster? Is it a fact of nature, is it something one is born with? Is a monster truly just nature? Sometimes, but not necessarily. Being a monster is often a choice. Becoming a monster is simple. It takes a simple choice. It means you have chosen to do whatever it takes, to take what you want. To hold power in your hands. We all understand that. Can you become the monsters you must become, to survive?"

With the last word, the archaeologists and the GallĆ» spirits attack. Though difficult, if Outsiders are able to defeat Dr. Jones and his crew of corrupted, shimmered archaeologists and Silco, then a path towards the door will lift from beneath the water to the gate.

ā–¶ 006. GATE OF SURVIVAL (FOURTH GATE OF THE UNDERWORLD || KAIJU FIGHT)

As the Outsiders descend a black staircase, they find a towering gate lit by flickering blue flames and a brick path leading to an endless field of lava. Thunder cracks as rain hisses against the magma. Overhead, clouds churn, lightning dancing through the Underworld’s ceiling.

A roar echoes from the gate and GallĆ» Spirits rise from the stones, clad in cheap monster suits like in a low-budget film. Both these spirits and the erratic lightning strikes are a threat as the kaiju unleashes torrents of malevolent red energy. The violent red energy pulses through its body, shining along its scales and feathers.

ā–ˆ ā–ˆ ā–ˆ MONSTER DEBRIEF SHEET
NAME: š’ƒ€š’€š’‚ š’ š’ š’‡ š’‡ š’€€
HEIGHT: 13m
WEIGHT: ???
CLASS: Extremely Dangerous
LOCATION: The Underworld
ABILITIES: Produces a high temperature energy and is capable of using it as a method of ranged attack. Armored Scales, sharp teeth and claws, tail is likewise a dangerous weapon. Intelligent. Amphibious, resistant to extreme climates.
WEAKNESSES: EMP effects can interfere with the creature’s energy attacks. Exposure to music or verse causes confusion that will make attacking easier. Angering it will cause the creature to fight more recklessly, leaving openings that can be exploited.
EXTRA NOTES: Exercise caution attacking the creature from behind, do not engage it should it enter water.
RIFT EFFECTS: Corruption, Sumerian Fever

ā–ˆ ā–ˆ ā–ˆ ATTACHED PHOTO:

CW: GORE, LOSS OF LIMBS
The battle is savage, with Lucy and Gilgamesh delivering the strongest blows. Lucy’s attack lands early in the fight, and the confusion caused to the kaiju by Raidou and Taryon’s recitals coupled with Akagi, Donatello, and Dearka’s musical interference allows for a clean cut that removes the beast’s right arm! Thanks to Hunter’s ice magic, the beast is frozen solid in ice long enough for Kadaj to strike in deeply! Bravely, Muramasa allows Cagalli’s Akatsuki to throw him towards the kaiju like an angry sword wielding baseball. Capitalizing on Godzilla’s weakened legs Athrun seizes his tail and sends Godzilla tumbling to the ground. Nanami further unbalances the kaiju, allowing Gilgamesh to capitalize on this with his own attacks, the force of which knocks the kaiju hard enough that the tail rips right off!
END CW

This makes Godzilla very upset and sends him into a rampage! Thankfully, Aventurine’s falling poker chips keep everyone from the worst of the retributions. Aki, Vash, Lucy, Geto, and Shinn manage to land in attacks even as the continued damage leads to Godzilla charging his attack, the red glow from his mouth intensifying. All of those efforts give the perfect opening for Harumasa’s arrow to land a perfect hit! His arrow flies true, finding a gap in the scales of the kaiju's throat and delivering an electric shock into his body, sending the beast falling to the ground with that final decisive blow.

The kaiju manages to rise to his knees for a brief moment, so he can fire a final blast of red energy skyward, igniting the clouds and dispelling the storm. The majority of Rift Energy has been purged from his system. Fully spent, he collapses with the glow fading from his body. The spirits vanish, magma cools, and the path ahead clears.

Beyond this gate is an area of respite. A field of clay flowers and sculpted trees awaits, devoid of all life but providing a chance to rest and recover after their trials.

ā–¶ 007. AFTERWORD.

Welcome to the 6th travel log but 8th kaiju log... We'll just call it the 8th kaiju log. As mentioned in the last mingle, the June event is a player plot in which the Outsiders have come together in order to resolve the present crisis.

In this event, all seven gates of the Underworld will have to be crossed and their guardians defeated! However, your character doesn’t need to play out going through every gate. They can let others deal with the earlier gates to focus on later gates. Though they are not featured in this log, Yzak, Bakugou, Hiyori and Ereshkigal will have their own trial/battle in the second log. It is possible to encounter them in this log if they have a top level and come to check on their fellow guardians protecting the earlier gates.

This event is longer than usual so please refer to the event breakdown below for summaries if necessary. Additional information may be provided in top levels of characters involved in the player plot planning.
EVENT BREAKDOWN/RECAP (CLICK TO EXPAND)
001. OUTSIDERS UNBOUND (TRAVEL) With none of the usual alarms or notifications, Outsiders are on their own in terms of figuring out the current crisis. Through the collective efforts of the Outsiders, they will have discovered a route to Ereshkigal and potentially the missing through Iraq. Outsiders are expected to find their own way to Kƻr - the Underworld, whether with some help or through the data portal through Egypt.

002. KUR KIGAL With their arrival to the old city, Outsiders are provided shelter in the form of restored buildings that have been retro-fitted for their comfort. With food and shelter no longer a concern Dr. Masuda takes the Outsiders to the Temple of Ishtar where the trials await them deep in the tunnel and caves systems.

003. GATE OF GRAVE KEEPER In the first gate, Outsiders may find pitfall traps and strange gravestones with familiar names written on them. GallĆ» spirits can manifest as figures from characters' pasts and will try to convince characters to succumb to the effects of the Rift. Overcoming the trial and defeating Tsurumaru will allow Outsiders to pass to the next gate.

004. GATE OF REASON Outsiders must battle nauseating hallucinations and navigate a portal maze with dangerous traps and GallĆ» spirits. They can find portals that smell like chalk or sound like turning pages to reach the exit. Reaching the end and defeating Ratio will lead to the next gate.

005. GATE OF EXCISION Outsiders must work together to move throughout fissures, dangerous water, and trap buildings. They can encounter the missing scientists who are drugged to be berserk, stronger, and have more stamina. Defeating them and Silco will allow Outsiders to move on to the next gate.

006. GATE OF SURVIVAL Outsiders must climb up a staircase and fight Gallu spirits while avoiding energy blasts from Godzilla. The environment is very stormy and hot because of magma. Defeating the kaiju will allow Outsiders to move on the next gate but also provide them with a moment to rest and recover.

[ He could pull out his gun again, but he leaves it holstered. Silco always had wanted to do things up close. There's something about watching everything that someone was fade from their vision... it's not pleasure, but it is a finality. Silco enjoys that. The knowledge that it was him, him that did it.

He lives in spite of everything. He harms in spite of it. If he had an aspect, it would truly be that above all things.

He slashes the knife through the air. It's the one Tezcatlipoca made for him, of all things. He thinks it feels fitting.
]

It's not a bet, Tezcatlipoca. I don't make bets. [ He's not backing down, at least.

Then again, Tezcatlipoca knew that he would not.
]

I'll do what I must to see this through.

[ He doesn't rush him. More the fool him, but he knows he isn't fast enough. He waits. ]

[ If it were anyone else, Tezcatlipoca would simply don his armor with this smoke. It’s the fearsome visage of war and death, the king of the jaguars that was the kind of destruction that Silco seeks. Silco might not fully grasp what he’s agreed to, it’s exactly what Tezcatlipoca has said—he overcomes the grip on his mind, or he dies. It’s a fight to the death, and for his acolyte, he wouldn’t disrespect him with half-measures.

The smoke envelops him, but it’s only a moment after that he closes the gap between them.

It’s not as if Silco hasn’t seen Tezcatlipoca in his divine raiment before. It’s rare, but it’s always been something easily understood as something he only took on when it was something important. By appearances alone, it would even seem to be something purely ceremonial, since it bares so much of him compared to the dark, protective skin of his feline armor.

Yet, as Tezcatlipoca swings his spear out as soon as it’s within range, it’s all clearly different. His brilliant blue eyes are all cold, frightening intensity, and Silco will recognize the feeling in the air. It’s duller thanks to this world and the fact that he stands in Ereshkigal’s territory over anything else, but it’s the same kind of pressure bearing down on Silco’s very soul as it had been fighting Quetzalcoatl. It’s as if it’s there to remind Silco that he’s staring into the eyes of death itself. ]

[ He moves fast. Silco has seen him in battle, both with and without shimmer, and it is something to be feared, if one felt fear. something to be respected above all else. He respects Tezcatlipoca, it is why he bothers with this at all. He would have dismissed someone else, were Eereshkigal to ask him to fight a different god.

It is only Tezcatlipoca that he would respect like this.

He knows a little of battle, but only a little. He is not a fighter. He never has been.

But he knows what Tezcatlipoca's eyes mean. He sees it, feels it. The eyes of death. An old friend that comes to visit, but has never been able to drag him out with them. He does not fear death, he has not... but perhaps now... he knows it is coming for him. Now, tomorrow, a month, years? It doesn't matter. It is coming.

He tries to slide in, removing the space so he can stab up and at him with his knife, trying to aim for his side, to catch him.

He tries to mind the spear, but...

It's Silco. Has he ever been a warrior?

[ This is what Tezcatlipoca had been warning him about without saying so many words. Ereshkigal’s logic might be sound, but the gap between Silco and Tezcatlipoca still might as well be a chasm. Silco was someone who brought war and change, but it was something brought through words over anything else. He wasn’t equipped to fight a god whose art lay in the decisive moments of a battlefield.

Compared to Quetzalcoatl, Tezcatlipoca is grace over sheer power, and yet, it’s much more chilling. Tezcatlipoca turns the spear as he shifts his weight forward, and his gaze does at least shift away from Silco’s to focus on the blade, but it’s barely better. Silco’s knife will find a mark as the incredibly sharp blade is able to sink into the god, but he’s moving to account for that too. It’ll hurt like a bitch and bleed a lot, but it won’t be fatal.

It's the same for Silco.

The points of the spear snap together by Tezcatlipoca’s will as he swings it up, and it’s just as viciously sharp as the knife he’d given Silco. It’s a knife that he’ll find that he can’t twist as he might want and make the wound much nastier. That’s the delay of it—it takes a moment for the brain to catch up with just how viciously, perfectly sharp Tezcatlipoca’s weaponry is.

His cold expression does tighten, since it does hurt, but his frightening gaze just turns back to Silco as he moves again without even reaching towards the knife in his side. The dull thud of a severed hand isn’t even given a glance. It’s all familiar to Silco, after all. That’s the point, and Tezcatlipoca simply turns his spear in his hands again to reorient for another attack. ]

[ He tries, as soon as it sinks in, to twist it, but it's too wide and thick to make any movement, and the distraction only serves to leave Silco's mind hyperfocused on the act, trying to twist it, too much force, the split second is all that it takes — Tezca would need hardly more than that — before...

Searing, sharp pain.

It's like he's in two places at once. He remembers this pain. He remembers it from before. The white-hot fury, the solid thump of it hitting the ground. He'd been so angry then he couldn't see straight. He remembers, what was it... what...

Quetzalcoatl. She'd done this to him, too. He'd been angry, mad, incandescent, furious and unthinking. She'd had something of hers in hand. He remembered that he couldn't let her go with it, he couldn't explain to her what it meant, either. Just that it was important just that —

Tezcatlipoca's blade had taken off his hand, just like that.

A sharp burst of sound, a stumble backward, he lets go of his blade, and starts moving.
]

You — Hah —

[ It's the same hand. ]

Just like your sibling.

[ The dark smoke gathers more thickly around Tezcatlipoca, though it won’t be clear why. One strike, he allows, but another? He wouldn’t. That strange smoke is much more potent than it seems, and it’s just as much a dangerous tool in his arsenal as any. It’s his luck made manifest, and it keeps that knife snugly in place rather than jostle it or remove it. Idly, he thinks he’ll be giving that mage another call, it seems like.

For Silco, though. His gaze is cold ice, the sort that would raise the hair on the back of most peoples’ necks, especially as that smoke starts to swirl. He gracefully points the blood-soaked tip of the spear at Silco, but he remains where he is. Everything about his posture says that’s a ā€œfor nowā€. ]

Wrong. I’m more. I am the black sun that reflects all Creation. I am your fate.

[ They’re regal, weighty words that don’t fit the more casual, easy-going demeanor that Silco has become accustomed to. And in them, it’s clear what Tezcatlipoca means. It’s not simply a threat that comes from battle. It’s that promise that the god had made, but more unnerving now. Tezcatlipoca is death—and when Silco’s death comes, he’ll find that campfire in the mist.

…Not that it’s now, though. He turns the spear sharply, splattering the blood against the ground to clean it, and turns to point it low and dangerous again as the barbs click out from the point. Tezcatlipoca’s breath is slow and steady, no doubt because of that knife in his side, but he’s undeterred. ]

My next strike takes your heart. Get out of my way while you still have the chance. Reflect upon that destruction that you crave instead. This familiar pain should remind you of what Yima tried to take.

[ Yima had tried to take his humanity.

He knows that's what he means. Everything about her, her touch, the cool of Zenith, the first time she'd reached out to him to grip him and bestow him power, to her voice echoing through the lips of another, promising that he was hers, that he would not be tossed aside again —

He still knew the truth.

She'd been the one who held steadfast.

His face twitched. The blessing meant the hurt didn't settle in. He could keep going. He could — He needed to move. Tezcatlipoca would kill him. He was death incarnate. He said it himself.

The weight of his words, the promise. That he would find him at the end of his time. It was a promise. It was a threat. he is the black sun that reflects all creation. He's the end. The thing they will all find. He knows it, like a solid, ever-present weight on his chest. Quetzalcoatl would have tried to get help, had, while threatening, but she had. Tezcatlipoca would not. He would expect Silco to survive it on his own.

His hand is gone.

It's not coming back. He's surprised it came back when he arrived here.

He needs to dress it.
]

I know you're coming for me. [ A breath. It still hurts, but not like it should. ] But it won't be today. I still have things to do, Tezcatlipoca. You will not take them from me.

[ A tip of his head.

From the side, one of the shimmered archaeologists comes rushing out of the shadowed alley, rushing to slam into Tezcatlipoca, lashing out with a meaty, muscled fist.

Silco starts to back up, aiming to slide into the shadows.

…Ha.

[ Tezcatlipoca breathes out a laugh, and though it’s a little strained, it still feels warm. Compared to that icy, dangerous cold, this is a flicker of the god that Silco has come to know. It’s a good response, after all. It’s exactly why this man who was about as far from a warrior as possible was still Tezcatlipoca’s acolyte. He may love brave, bloody feats, but really… It’s resolve and survival that speaks to him the most. ]

We both do. So, if you have any kind of connection, just let her know I’m coming, whether she likes it or not.

[ It sounds like a threat, and surely it is, but it’s still said with that knowing smile. He tilts his spear again, shifts his weight as he breathes in through his nose— ]

[ —Ah, but, shit, these guys really are a pain in the ass.

It’s a strange thing that happens that’s a phenomenon like Silco’s eyes are playing tricks on him. That fist should collide with Tezcatlipoca, and he even looks surprised for an instant before he turns, but it’s like the trajectory of that fist is suddenly off. It brushes through the cloud of smoke instead of hitting the god, and he hisses in surprise.

So much for keeping that knife in place, he thinks, since as the smoke envelops him again, he’s covered and clad fully in that strange, feline black. It’s even down to the unsettling mask that completely hides his expression now, and it seems like Silco will have plenty to be able to escape. An obsidian knife clatters to the ground as the archaeologist properly slams into Tezcatlipoca. However, the barbed tail is quick to dig into their calf, and they tumble to the ground together. It’s definitely best to just leave while he has the chance. ]

cw: gore, murder, non-descriptive cannibalism. the works…

[ Tezcatlipoca was more judicious with his attacks when it comes to Silco, since there’s meaning there. It’s a culmination of their bond in some ways to the point that he would have been fairly satisfied if this was the end. He’s a man that had earned the right to face his spear and have a chance to right things, but this man?

He’s not so lucky.

The growl that rips its way out of Tezcatlipoca’s throat as they fit the ground is more animal than human. The pain and the pour of blood out of the knife wound pulls out the feral part of him only known as Tepeyollotl, king of the jaguars, king of the mountains. The barb digs in deep and twists into muscle as they struggle to gain an advantage over each other. He has strength and speed that’s more than enough to be a contest while Tezcatlipoca is doing his damndest to conserve what energy he can, but. The archaeologist simply isn’t aware of where Tezcatlipoca’s weapons lie.

It's a sharp, wet sound that’s a crunch into bone and organ. The claws of Tezcatlipoca’s armor extends up into his torso in the moment it takes for the alignment to be just right. The Shimmer still does some work to keep the brute alive, trying to scape and pull at what he can of the strange armor, but the strength fades fast as his sheer body weight turning limp starts to pin Tezcatlipoca more than the struggle itself.

He snarls again, and there’s another ripping, crunching sound as he pulls the claws out more brutally and pushes him to the side before he completely collapses on top of him. With a huff, Tezcatlipoca’s hand goes to the wound in his side, then the quickly fading light in the man’s eyes.

…Well. He’s certainly not going to let this go to waste. If anyone wants to yell at him about it later, he doesn’t give a shit.

The mask disappears into black smoke as he dips his head towards that opened up torso. ]

[ It’s a gruesome, beastly fight that leaves Tezcatlipoca covered in blood. It’s largely not his own. But even so. He grunts as he rises, placing a hand over that wound. He still can’t heal himself for shit, just stave off the inevitable, so. Looks like it’s time to get himself in more debt.

…He’ll see if Silco kicks the bucket later, he guesses. ]

TIMESKIPS TO AFTER 'ZILLA FIGHT.......

[personal profile] zauneyete 2025-06-02 06:06 am (UTC)(link)
[ Silco does not, in fact, kick the bucket. Somehow, despite everything, he makes it out more or less alive.

That also means that with the injuries he's sustained, he's been flagging, a combination of blood loss and poison leaving him weak and having to be essentially carried the rest of the way. He's had food by now, at least. And water. His stump is stabilized as best it can be, though the bandage is overly-bloody, and Silco's even paler than usual.

He's still smoking a cigarette — thanks Dearka — and propped up against a rock. Despite going through it, despite having to flee for his life, and having to be... cleansed of corruption (can u believe he made it out instead of just getting knocked out... that's growth) was not exactly what he had been in for. Then again, he hadn't exactly volunteered for this whole ordeal, despite the fact that he had seemed so locked into the mission. Despite all of this, he looks... pensive.

Does he feel all that bad? Not for most of it. It wasn't his fault it was happening. He hadn't done anything. So what was there to feel bad about? Corruption was corruption, and whatever the rift had done... it had been so strong that he had barely been able to think straight. The fact that he'd given in easily to the plan may have had something to do with why he had been... "healed". Though his hair is still white in places, his expression is back to its usual, surly self.

Which is how Tezca will find him later.

[ It’s definitely not immediate. For one, Tezcatlipoca has his own injuries that he needs to get patched up. He owes Rin a lot at this point, but you know? He’s also thankful to have a mage from their world around, since it makes things a hell of a lot easier. Less explanations, more understanding of how to stitch him back together, et cetera. It all works out well, save for her annoyance and the increasing intensity of glares that he’s getting from Muramasa.

Two? Well… He knows Silco is going to need some time to cool off. He’s the kind of guy that might stab him again if he ends up trying to pal around too soon. Yet, similarly, he knows he can’t let it linger. The more Silco gets into his own head about it, the worse it is.

So, it’s as casual as ever. Tezcatlipoca prefers to not present himself as anything but that. He approaches, gives Silco a little nod, but without any warning, greeting, or apology, just takes a seat in front of him as he slips his pack off his shoulders with a grunt. He starts to dig through it, but from the sounds of it, it’s a bit full, so. Whatever he’s looking for, it’ll take a moment. ]

My bad about the hand. I’ll hook ya up with a better one once we’re back topside.

[ It’s the worst apology, but this is also because he doesn’t exactly feel bad about it… ]

[ Silco is and always has been a particularly... testy individual. Tezcatlipoca knows better than most, that he has certain... ways about him. He gets angry fast, but the man also holds a grudge like none other. Quetzalcoatl had been part of the damage radius of his anger. As had Vander. And Zaun. They all have.

More like leaving a wide wake, Silco's anger is stewing, certainly.

He's holding his hand to his chest. It hurts. A lot. He's without anymore shimmer, he's got it tourniquetted and bandaged, but that's it. That's not very much. The lack of painkillers is leaving his eye closed half the time, though Silco always has one eye open. The pack of cigarettes Dearka brought is a third gone already, as if nicotine is a salve to the pain.
]

I should gut you for that. Tried to, in fact.

[ Hey bestie šŸ’– ]

Did you pick up my knife on your way here?

[ Apology not accepted, but also... you know. Eh. It's whatever. At least it's the hand he lost before. ]

[ Tezcatlipoca scoffs, but even if he’s frowning a bit sourly, this is a pretty good response. It really was a roll of the dice, honestly, because as much as he knew Silco, he wasn’t sure how much that action would sting. Well, so to speak. He knows about the physical pain well. ]

Yeah, ā€˜bout to say, you did, asshole. And look at you now. All better. More or less.

[ It’s a surly response for a surly response, but he finds what he’d been digging for. He pulls out a familiar trinket by its handle, though its blade is wrapped in cloth to prevent it from cutting through his bag. Without hesitation, he tosses it to Silco so that it lands at his feet. It’s a sign of trust that he’s returning it. Maybe. ]

ā€˜Course I did. It’s probably even sanctified now.

[ Okay, that part is a joke more than reality, but. That would have been true if he were his more fully divine self, without a doubt. Servants are just a major downgrade even when he’s running at full power. ]

I know you’re mad about it, but only did it ā€˜cuz I had to. Wasn’t personal, you know that, right?

All better.

[ A twist of his lips.

He spent most of the last nearly passed out, being hauled around because well, he was losing a lot of blood. Also, he was poisoned. It's kind of coming full circle that all of the things he'd been through were coming for him, now that his involuntary alignment change (???) was done with.
]

You had to? You couldn't think of any other way to subdue me? Maybe knock me out? I know you could have.

[ But... but then I couldn't have gotten toxic yaoi, so!! ]

No, you and Quetzalcoatl are truly siblings. That's what she did too, you know. Before I killed her.

[ A little bitter sound. It might be a laugh. ] I'd almost say this is fitting. Though I didn't quite make it a year with this one.

[ He lifts the stump, and lets it flop back onto his lap. ]

[ Tezcatlipoca’s expression twists further, and this is less of a frown and more of a snarl. If he liked Silco only slightly less, this petulant response would be something that he’d have much less patience for. Sure, he’s the one that did it, and it’s a violence that he can understand Silco being angry and bitter about, but— ]

Yeah, knock you out so that you can pop right back up acting exactly the same? I know what I’m dealing with here, dickhead. That kinda corruption is from our World.

[ There’s a sharpness in his tone that’s rare—unheard of in conversations between them, even. It’s a genuine offense, but whether that’s at Silco questioning his knowledge or that comment about Quetzalcoatl, it’s hard to say. His expression hadn’t twisted until that, after all. ]

What, you want me to say I’m sorry? You wouldn’t accept it.

You're right. I wouldn't.

[ Tezcatlipoca is correct, of course. He wouldn't accept the apology. He also wouldn't accept anything short of the logic behind it. He watches the spread of anger across his face. It feels... satisfying, good, like a little parting shot from the antagonism. Like he just needed to get something off, to make sure that the God understood that he was someone to be reckoned with.

Then again...
]

And I would have. [ He admitted. He may be a bitch, but he knew who he was. ]

Really, all the loss did was make me angry, you know.

[ We're NOT TALKING about what calmed him down!! ]

I would have preferred to keep my hand. Next time, maybe consider just a stab wound?

[ He clicks his tongue in irritation, because he can just see how his spark of anger is what calms Silco down more than any apology would. It pisses him off, but… Annoyingly, that’s precisely why Silco was a guy that fell into his divine domains so neatly. You can say many things about the man, but dammit, he good at inciting conflict, that’s for damn sure. ]

Yeah, that was the fuckin’ point. Pissing you off enough to forget about your hard-on for destruction or whatever the fuck. Just a stabbing wouldn’t be enough. Had to be meaningful enough to shock you outta it.

[ He reaches back into his bag and starts to pull out a few more things. One set is predictable—cigarettes and a lighter, naturally. He lights his cigarette first, a quick, almost automatic motion. ]

You’re damn lucky I’m merciful. Would’ve been easier to just take your heart for real and move on.

[ And even though he’s complaining about all of this sourly and like he’s about to change his mind about sparing Silco… Second out of the bag is a flask. He unscrews the top, takes a swig, and without blinking, holds it out for Silco to take. ]

[ A half-second, as he stares at him. That long, odd stare, mismatched, but at least his eyes are the right colors now. His hair is still pale, but the corruption is taking longer to fade there — unfortunately, the white in Silco's hair will be more prominent — and he hissed out a soft laugh, before he took a drag on his cigarette. He tipped his head back, and blew a waft of it into the air. }

It was so easy, to remember. How much I wanted it. How much it meant.

[ How everyone was going to leave him. How easy it had been, after Jinx had done it too. ]

Yet I seem to have slipped death's notice yet again. [ A shake of his head, and he reached out to take the flask. Sweet, sweet alcohol.

Should he be drinking it? God, no. He's still going to. A long swig of it. It burns so pleasantly.
]

Next time I find a nice one, I'll give it to you instead, how about that?

[ Tezcatlipoca’s hard gaze at least relaxes once Silco takes the flask. That’s the understanding that the two of them have. It’s the sort of god he is, even if he hadn’t been the one to take up the true title of a god of wisdom. Yet, even so, he’s still Tehimatini—ā€the one who understands the peopleā€. ]

Yeah. I know. That’s how that process works. It takes a possibility in your heart and makes it something real. That’s who you would have been if things had continued along back in Kenos. If you’d become who Yima wanted.

[ He sighs, since technically, it’s not like he knows that with any certainty. It’s not like he had his true prescience even there to be able to unfold the possibilities of the future. He’d still caught a glimpse, though. It wasn’t specifically Silco’s future, just the world itself, and in that, were those chosen few even themselves anymore?

That was a possibility he couldn’t share there. It’s a possibility that he didn’t share here, because it didn’t matter. So, yeah, of course it would end up coming up anyways. He takes a drag of his cigarette for a pause. ]

—I meant what I said, though. You didn’t escape death’s notice. Don’t like to put it this way, since you mortals get all weird and touchy about it for some reason. [ He’s joking—He knows exactly why. ] ā€œDeathā€ is always with you. I’m here to stay, whether you like it or not.

[ Whether he means that literally or more figuratively is hard to tell, but that’s Tezcatlipoca for you. It’s not meant to be straightforward. It’s a serious sentiment either way, so it’s also short-lived as he smiles again, just a little toothy and cocky. He motions for him to give the flask back. ]

So, sure. Offer me up as many hearts as you like. I’ll take ā€˜em, you know me.

[ In some ways, he knows that he's Tezcatlipoca's. A god of death and conflict would always be one that Silco favors, and well... Maybe he's the type that Tezca favors because of it, too. A man who lives and breathes conflict and strife, was it really so surprising?

He handed over the flask, already missing the burn, but beggars can't be choosers, and instead he opts to take another long drag of his cigarette.

He can tell, in retrospect, how bad it was, the state of him, while he'd been a world away. It had been so gradual he barely recognized it, until he felt that ever-oppressive weight of who he had become in those two years, how mad he'd been. How much he had become an instrument to someone else. He still didn't mind that dream, destroying it all. It would always be with him now, but maybe it's a distant thing.
]

Hah. I suppose if I'm death's acolyte, it explains a lot about how I keep slipping the noose, doesn't it?

[ Silco took everything personally, but maybe when it came to Tezca, he was a bit more forgiving. (Until he finds out what you did...) probably bias — he tended to be blind to those he favored — but also...

Well.

He looks thoughtful. Pensive.

For a long moment, he looks away. Silco generally doesn't, but for anyone. He meets people's eyes out of spite just as much as anything else. Though thinking about it...
]

Something I've known for a long time, is that everyone leaves eventually. Perhaps death is one of the few constants I have in life. I suppose it's inevitable that I was going to meet you.

[ not that he thinks you're cool or anything!!]

[ Tezcatlipoca takes the flask back, and maybe surprisingly, he puts the cap back on and tucks it away. It’s just practical, though. Good as it would be to drink and talk about death and the past like two old men, he’s saving that for their whole journey. And, besides. He does technically know that drinking isn’t the best idea for either of them at the moment with the blood-loss. He can almost hear Kaladin’s exasperated voice in his ear for even having a drink at all. ]

Nah, wouldn’t go that far. You’re just lucky to have avoided it so far, believe it or not.

[ He’s inclined to believe ā€œnotā€, but he doesn’t elaborate further. He just sees how Silco actually turns thoughtful, and he waits to see whether he’ll let it pass or express it. When he does… Hm. ]

You’ve known that for a long time, huh?

[ He repeats that, but there’s no doubt in his tone. It’s also not dripping in the sort of saccharine empathy that Silco had rejected from Quetzalcoatl. As it is always is with Tezcatlipoca, it’s a cool, quiet thing. The question is surely an unexpected one, but it’s not pushy. It’s clear that Silco could refuse to answer it if he wanted to. ]

Tell me about the first one, then. Who was the first one you loved that got away?
zauneyete: (pic#17504542)

[personal profile] zauneyete 2025-06-04 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
You put the flask away before you asked that?

[ His tone might be joking, but there's an edge to it, like he's obfuscating, putting a comical costume on something ugly, and old, and aching even now. It didn't matter how long it was since it, it didn't matter how long he lasted separately from it. He still felt it, like that old wound that never healed — and well. It was that.

He inhaled a drag from his cigarette and awkwardly pulled another out from the pack, before he lit it with the cherry of his current one. One could not say that he wasn't a chainsmoker, but perhaps he needs it.
]

He didn't. [ Blunt, his words curled with smoke, a sharp exhale. ] I killed him.

[ Tezcatlipoca is always like this. Honest, sharp, mean, and a touch cruel, but Silco understands that about him. He's like a Zaunite, really. He digs into this wound, like he's trying to expunge it, remove everything in it, so it can heal properly. His lips twitched before he flicked the first cigarette away, moving to the next one. ]

He's the one who gave me this, after all. [ He lifts his stump, before it drops back down. Ah, yes. He points with the cigar at his eye. ] Betrayed me. Tried to drown me in the river, where the toxins did their thorough work.

[ It's so much more than that, even Silco's voice belies that this is a long story, but he offers the in, at least. A blurry photograph of his past. ]

[personal profile] fursuit 2025-06-04 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
[ Tezcatlipoca gives a helpless shrug at the half-request for the flask, but it’s with a wry smile. ]

Hey, I’m not partakin’ either, at least. Not the best idea for either of us to overdo it with the blood loss.

[ It’s cheeky, but it’s still a concession to how Silco had gotten him too. But otherwise, his expression relaxes again as it’s clear that Silco is going to tell him. He’s glad, honestly. He wouldn’t have pushed for it, but he knows that whatever it was, it was important. In fact, he has a feeling that it’s crucial for the man Silco is today.

So, he simply listens.

It’s not a long story, but it also doesn’t need to be. There’s plenty of grand detail that could be told to really make it a story, and it’s not like he would have complained about that either. However, he thinks it’s telling that Silco, the man of big words and bitter bravado, makes it a simple story. There’s meaning in every careful, controlled syllable. It doesn’t even matter if the reality of the situation was more complicated than this. It was Silco’s perception, and that was his truth.

…Besides. He knows Silco well enough at this point to fill in some of those blanks.

Giving Silco the Shimmer into his eye. The way that he struggled with a confusing fear when he’d pulled him out of the sea. The way he treated people. As it turns out, he doesn’t need any more detail than this, not really. He’s been silently watching them come together for as long as they’ve known each other. ]

Everyone leaves. Everyone changes. Everyone dies.

[ It’s a repetition and distillation of Silco’s mindset down to a harsh observation. It could sound critical from others, because it’s such a simplistic way to view the world, but from Tezcatlipoca, it’s simply… accepting. There’s neither approval nor disapproval, but just an acknowledgement that he sees where all this bitterness in his heart comes from. ]

It’s a lonely way to go through life.
